Elicia hits the heights

Greetings to you all wherever you are, and whatever you are doing!

We heard some great news earlier this week, when it was announced that violinist Elicia Silverstein, whose solo recital in the 2019 Baroque at the Edge made such an impression on audience and critics, had won the BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer Award 2020 for The Dreams and Fables I Fashion, her commercial recording featuring pretty much the same music she performed for us: Bach, Biber, Sciarrino and Berio. We send our congratulations to Elicia. You can find out more about the award, and hear her talking about it, by clicking here and looking down the list.

While you’re doing that, you may also notice that composer Edmund Finnis – whose Lines Curved Rivers Mirrored was performed at BatE 2019 by viol virtuoso Liam Byrne – has won the Premiere Award for his album The Air, Turning. Congratulations go to him as well.

And if you’ve been enjoying the extracts we’ve been putting up of the concert given in 2018 by Tabea Debus and Alex McCartney, here’s another one to savour – a bit of ancient and modern this time. Hope you enjoy it!

Stay safe, and keep the music flowing.
