Wayward Reads

Fiction-wise
First, there is a site on the Internet called Hello Giggles. That's 'nuff said, right there. But they have an article in their Book Bites section featuring "11 Charming Books About Books." Those charming books include:

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
Set in a used-book shop in which the books hold secrets, memories, and love letters. Very cool.

The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy Meyerson
Inheriting her uncle's bookshop, Miranda discovers he'd set up a scavenger hunt that will lead her to a dark, family secret. Oooh. My kind of read.

Lost for Words by Stephanie Butland
Bookish introvert Loveday works at a quaint bookshop, and prefers to keep to herself. Sounds like paradise.

How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry

Emilia struggles to save her bookshop. Unique characters and a charming romance. Maybe...

Non-Fiction
This month, we get a list of new nonfiction books from Bustle. They include:

All Happy Families: A Memoir by Jeanne McCulloch
Two dysfunctional families brought together for a wedding in 1983.

Lands of Lost Borders: A Journey on the Silk Road by Kate Harris
Harris shares her adventures biking in remote parts of the world.

Gross Anatomy by Mara Altman
Altman explores why we're so grossed out by our own bodies. (LOL. I'ma read this one.)

Maeve in America: Essays by a Girl from Somewhere Else by Maeve Higgins
An Irish comedian's immigration story.

Mini Reviews
The Truth About Lorin Jones by Alison Lurie
The main character was rather a nut, but she came through in the end.
My Goodreads rating: 4 stars

A Reunion of Ghosts by Judith Claire Mitchell

Weirdly good.
My Goodreads rating: 4 stars

Finding Georgina by Colleen Faulkner
Have you ever wanted to punch a main character? Well, read this one.
My Goodreads rating: 3 stars

Wayward Recommends
Walk Me Home by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I should just say that all of Hyde's books are recommended!
My Goodreads rating: 5 stars

Wayward on Words

This month, I found an article on Express Writers with what they call "34 of the Zaniest, Craziest Words in the Dictionary." I get a whiff of a challenge in that title. Competitive wording aside, their list includes:

Abibliophobia: Fear of running out of stuff to read. (Not a chance. Have you seen my bookshelves?)

Pandiculation: The tightening of your muscles as you stretch in the morning. (It sounds bad; but it feels good.)

Sialoquent: Spitting while talking. (Spit happens!)

Wabbit: (No. Not a wascally wabbit.) A Scottish word for being exhausted.

Nudiustertian: Of the day before yesterday. (I did not know there was a word for that.)

Poetry

Kindling
by Paul Cameron Brown

        As a matter of fact,
ovens do carry a glazed stare,
        fireplaces are wont to parry
        thoughts to kindling
        before their stoop and
        on breathless summer nights
        one is hard pressed
        to recall cinder and
        blackened barleys any more
        vegetatively than upon
        these harridan pots.
