News from the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation                             March 2021
I am so happy to announce that our annual Play for Education golf tournament is returning! After a year away, our board is ready to welcome golfers back to beautiful Prouts Neck Country Club. This event is about more than fundraising though, as it’s an opportunity to personally say hello to and thank many of our supporters. It’s also become a tradition for some CEHS alumni, family and friends to reunite and play, coming together to support Cape and catch-up. With all of the changes and uncertainty over the past year, it is nice to hold onto this bit of tradition and we can’t wait to welcome you.

Innovative Grants Keep On Coming!

Snowshoes: Snow Much Fun!

8th Grade Experiential Learning Teacher Mr. Kerr had to be creative to expand nature-based education for his middle-schoolers: snowshoes.  “Winter is a very unique time to really explore the world around us. The snow and loss of foliage allows us to explore areas where we might not be able to in the summer, spring, or fall. For the experiential program in particular, we will use [snowshoes] to further expand our study of the importance of salt marshes and its importance to Cape Elizabeth’s and Maine's coastal ecology.”

Virtual Coder Express

The “Coder Express” went virtual this year, continuing an annual event where all Pond Cove students learn to code and celebrate the Holidays with an evening of pajamas, programming, cookies and hot chocolate. Charltray and the eTeam students were able to provide students with a take-home kit containing all needed supplies and of course, a cookie and hot chocolate. Yum!

Aquarium Field Trip

Pond Cove 4th graders participated in a virtual field trip with the NE Aquarium showcasing the Sea Turtle Rescue program. They read compelling texts, listened to videos, and met with NEA educators to understand the techniques to rehabilitate, study, track and collect data on sea turtles. Most importantly,  students were reminded of what actions we can take as global citizens to help protect these unique creatures.
