News from the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation                     May 2020

Especially on a sunny, cloudless day as I write this, it's easy to see the physical beauty of Cape Elizabeth: miles of shoreline, flowers blooming and open spaces to enjoy. It's what others can't see however that makes Cape special - the way Cape residents support each other and the strong sense of community cherished by those living here. CEEF is part of that community and we don't hesitate to help when needed.  CEEF formed our "Food for Thought" Initiative early on to support the growing number of students facing food insecurity in Cape Elizabeth, and we invite you to join us in that, as well as thanking educators through our Red Apple Awards.  We take to heart our mission of partnering with the schools and the community to benefit Cape students and feel lucky to continue to play that role.

Honor Educators with a Red Apple Award

Red Apple Awards let an educator know they’ve made an impact on your child’s life and now more than ever is a great time to show your appreciation! Give a Red Apple Award and your recipient(s) will receive a special, handwritten card with your message along with recognition in our annual report and newsletter. All Red Apple Award donations will be directed to our "Food For Thought” Initiative which helps provide for Cape families facing food insecurity.

"The Red Apple Award is a full circle of honoring teachers and giving to better our students learning experiences. I thank the families that have honored me in this way."

Continued Support: CEEF Spring Grants

CEEF has continued to support Cape students and teachers with several grants and donation initiatives throughout the Spring. With the launch of our "Food For Thought" initiative, we've already donated $2000 to the district for the Backpack Fund and Hannaford Gift cards, helping students facing food insecurity.  We've also funded a grant to the Pond Cove Literacy Team - Becky Swift, Mary Dulac and Rosemary Ginn - to provide books and support reading skills for students during the summer months. Preparing students to learn and helping stay on top of skills is the innovation required for these times!

Congratulations Seniors!

We wish the class of 2020 all the best as they take on new adventures in the coming year! Although your year took an unexpected turn, you've shown the same resilience, strength and determination that propelled you through the last four years. We know you will continue to succeed!

CEEF Events Cancelled

Like so many other planned gatherings, CEEF has made the decision to cancel our 2020 Play For Education Golf Tournament & Auction and Cape Elizabeth Kitchen Tour. Given the enormous challenges facing our community as well as the social distancing restrictions, these annual events will not be feasible. We want to thank our wonderful donors and sponsors for their generous support. While many were looking forward to these events, cancelling is the safest decision for our community.
