Newsletter 004
Kia ora Freyberg Whānau,
As you may be aware, Early Learning Centres and Schools for Year One to Ten learners will re-open for selected learners once New Zealand transitions to COVID-19 Alert Level Three.
Freyberg Community School provides education for Years One to Six and this means that our school will re-open for selected learners from Wednesday 29th April 2020.
While our doors will open for learners who need to attend, in line with official New Zealand Government guidance, we request that learners remain at home wherever they are able to and we will ensure that we continue to provide high-quality distance learning options for all under COVID-19 Alert Level Three.
Essentially, if your child/children are at all able to remain at home under COVID-19 Alert Level Three, we require them to do so.
To ensure that we do everything possible to maintain the health of our learners, staff, school and wider communities when our school does re-open, we will be following specific protocols from the Ministry of Education which means that our school days will look quite different under COVID-19 Alert Level Three.
These protocols will include -

- Only offering on-site learning to those who need to attend

- Ensuring that any unwell learners or staff do not attend on-site learning
- Limiting 'School Bubbles' to ten children

- Staggering start, finish and break times to meet physical distancing guidelines and maintain 'School Bubbles'

- Not providing before or after school care so that 'School Bubbles' can be maintained

- Ensuring that physical distancing guidelines are met during the school day for on-site learners

- Establishing a contact tracing register and recording all people who access our school site

- Limiting activities and equipment provided on-site to meet recommended health guidelines

- Regularly disinfecting and cleaning all surfaces

- Providing hand sanitiser at entrances to learning spaces and in bathrooms

We will continue to provide updated information to our school community over the coming days.

We will be in direct contact with those of you who have indicated that you will need to have learners on-site in order to provide additional information and guidance around specific protocols and what school days will look like under COVID-19 Alert Level Three.

If you have any questions or comments please contact your child's teacher directly, or the school office at

Noho ora mai - stay safe,

Maria Dopheide

A message from the office...

I hope that you are  continuing to manage the lockdown and that you have still found a little bit of time to relax and enjoy some of this unexpected family time!

To our lovely new Freyberg students joining us for the first time next week (even if it is virtually) - Remy, Jesse, Sophie, Levi, William, Casper,  Mila, Nova and Meimi it is lovely to officially welcome you and we hope to see you in the not too distant future.

We understand that all families requiring school devices or MOE hard copy learning packs have now received them and students are underway to continue or begin the on-line learning programme in their respective teams.  This was a huge undertaking by our senior management staff and I am sure very much appreciated by our Freyberg families.  For those families that had sent emails requesting a device after the cut-off date, senior staff will be in touch when they return to the school site next week to see if assistance is still needed and action the request.

It was fabulous to hear that we have now had communication with some 401 of our 410 current students families.  We will continue to try to communicate with those we haven't caught up with by phone or email and hope that they are well in their "bubble'.  Feedback received from parents/students regarding communication, learning programmes and just the "checking in" has been positive and heartwarming to say the least.  Certainly a "feel good" moment to hear that everyone is staying safe and most importantly calm and coping with this new form of learning.

Remember if you have written a story/poem/created an interesting piece of art.....feel free to send it to your class teacher or direct to  I am always happy to share and look forward to hearing what you have been up to in your bubbles!

As families currently living in the most unprecedented circumstances we all have the same concerns and look forward to returning to normality.  Stay safe and take care........ still missing you all and look forward to seeing you all again!

Warmest regards
Mrs Prins
