Newsletter 014
We would like to thank our amazing community for their support today when we were suddenly asked to close down the school by the Ministry of Education due to a terminated water supply. We really appreciated the way so many of our families were able to rally around and collect their children earlier than usual. Thank you all so much and school is back to normal tomorrow!
Please note that over the next few weeks there may be times when a class is split due to teachers attending paid union meetings. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

A friendly reminder...if your children are involved in an incident at school, please do not approach the parents of other children involved to discuss it. It would be appreciated if you could instead talk directly to the classroom teacher as they will have all of the correct information and will be able to help you, or direct you to a staff member who can. Thank you!
This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjunction with the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
An important message from the teachers

We are seeing many students arriving at school each morning before 8.30am. Although we love to see such enthusiasm for learning, we would like to remind parents that students should not be onsite at this time unless they are enrolled at Kids Club.

We are excited to share the news that Freyberg Community School will be welcoming the NZ ice skate tour to our school hall! This will be taking place on the night of Monday the 6th of September. We sold out of tickets last month so the ice skate tour have very kindly added on earlier time slots which are selling out fast - so get in quick. The school receives 20% of takings after the event so it is a great fundraiser for us! All students will receive an ice skating lesson during school time so it's a great opportunity for them to show off their new skills.

We are making these available to all children in Year 4 to 6 classes, on an optional basis this year.  All of the Australian School Competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.
