Chronicle 021

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Freyberg Whānau,

Our school has been working with SchoolDocs to create a website for our policies and procedures. We are excited to announce that the site is now live and available to our school community.

The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.

SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our board of trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented.

We invite you to visit the site at https://freyberg.schooldocs.co.nz (note that there's no "www."). Our username is "freyberg" and password "learn".

A last reminder that this Friday the 23rd of October is our last Teacher Only Day for 2020 - we appreciate your support in advance. All staff will be offsite on this date to attend professional development in the CBD and our office will be closed.

Is your child leaving Freyberg?

Are you moving out of the area?

Please let us know!  If you are moving or your child will be enrolling at a new primary school in the New Year, please notify the office staff.  We are currently in the very early process of finalising classes for next year and this will enable us to have accurate numbers for classes in 2021.

Organisation for 2021

Due to significant roll growth we are unable to accommodate parent requests for teachers or specific classes for 2021.  However, if you have information regarding your child's learning that may be valuable in placement we would encourage you to contact our senior management staff - Ms Maria Dopheide if your child is a Year 0 - 2, Ms Emma-lea Graaf if your child is a Year 3 - 4, or Mr Matt Allely if your child is a Year 5 - 6 student next year.

Our senior management staff will try to assist as best as they can.

Student Enrolments for 2021

On Friday 16th October letters were posted to in zone and out of zone applicants confirming an offer of placement for 2021.  Applications for out of zone students wishing to attend Freyberg for 2021 are now closed.

If you have handed in an enrolment form and do not receive a letter by the end of the week please feel free to contact Juliette in the school office on (09) 838 9664.

We look forward to welcoming many new families to Freyberg in 2021.

Huge thanks to those families and students that supported our recent PINK SHIRT DAY! An incredible $430.10 was collected and this koha will be forwarded to the Mental Health Foundation to support their important mahi.
Thank you again for your support!
Exciting News to Share!

A family discussion and the reading of a book "Take the Lead" prompted Zaiya from Room 22 to write a letter to our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Zaiya was super excited to receive a reply from a no doubt super busy and popular lady!
This is one of our last fundraising ventures for the year.  Children have been busy creating wonderful art suitable to be made into calendars, diaries, greeting cards etc.

Personalised order forms will be sent home next week with all students. To view your child's picture and order products got to www.kidsartworks.com and type in your child's personalised code which is found at the bottom of your child's order form.

Thank you in advance for your support!
In term 3 and term 4 classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjuction with the 2020 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

We have had many students completing their challenge and who are ready to claim their tasty reward.  Don't forget to get your "pizza wheels" authorised by staff in the school office prior to redeeming your pizza at any Hell Pizza store!
Today our Year 4 students were lucky to have a visit from the lovely folk at sKids and Nestle to learn all about safety while cooking, nutrition and measuring ingredients. The 'Feed Your Whanau' class was a hit, with all the children participating to make a delicious "Carbo-nara' - plus they got to take ingredients to recreate this dish for their families at home! Thank you sKids and Nestle and yes, we even did the dishes :-)
