Newsletter 005

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Autumn has definitely made its presence felt at Freyberg this week and we hope you are all keeping safe and warm in your bubbles at home.  We all have our fingers crossed for good news from the Government next week about a drop to Level 2, but there is a chance that we will remain at Level 3.  If this happens, schools will continue to be online with teachers carrying out regular check-ins and with new work being uploaded daily.  Don't forget that the Ministry of Education has also created the Home Learning Channel (TVNZ 2+1) which runs from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.

We are unsure of what school will look like if we move to Level 2 as we have not been given this information yet by the Ministry of Health - but, as always, we will have the safety and students at the forefront of our planning and organisation.

Just a reminder to everyone in our community to continue to be on the lookout for any symptoms of COVID-19 and call Healthline (0800 358 5453) or your doctor immediately if you or anybody in your bubble has any of the following symptoms - a cough, high temperature, shortness of breath, sore throat, sneezing and runny nose, and a temporary loss of smell.

A rather nice side effect of having an empty school is that we have been able to use this time for some long awaited projects to be carried out, and the first of these is the Room 17/18 student toilets which are currently being upgraded - these should be finished in the next week or so and will be a welcome relief for the senior students and their teachers!

The 2019 Annual Report is now available for viewing on our website, if anyone is interested.

Noho ora mai - Stay well,

Maria Dopheide
Principal

celebrating with family and friends in your "bubble".
A message from the office...

I hope that you are continuing to manage the lockdown and that you have still maintained some sense of sanity in this extended time at Level 3.  Although the weather has a definite winter bite today, I hope you have still enjoyed some outside activities and are enjoying the time at home with your families...

We are continuing to receive positive feedback from parents/students regarding communication, learning programmes and of course the general " just checking with families" to see how they are managing. It is great to hear that everyone is staying safe and most importantly  - calm - and continuing to cope with this new way of learning.

Remember if you have written a story/poem/created an interesting piece of art.....feel free to send it to your class teacher or direct to admin@freyberg.school.nz.  I am always happy to share and look forward to hearing what you have been up to in your bubbles!

Warmest regards
Mrs Prins

Do you have want to say hello to your friends, your class, your teachers or the whole school? If you do - we will be having a student shoutout section in next weeks newsletter. Send your videos to admin@freyberg.school.nz and we will do our best to upload as many as we can!
Our lovely librarian Mrs Temu wishes to remind all students that you can access our e-platform to read many of our e-books.  The number of books available is huge and we are sure you will find something to keep you busy!
Remember...reading allows us to be many things...informed, escape,
and of course - relax!

The username is Room 7 (change to your child's classroom)
The password is 1280 (this allows access for all Freyberg students)

This year, ANZAC day was remembered as a day like none other.

With COVID-19 and the country currently in Level 4 on this day we were unable to have  dawn services or parades to attend.  We were however,  encouraged to remember those that had gone before us in a way that made this day reflective and part of every families "conversation".

Quinn Gauntlett in Room 14 has  made this beautiful poppy from items she found around her home! Thank you Quinn for sharing with us your beautiful art form.
Did we have enough Lego blocks to build Ranger a new home?
Absolutely!
Not sure if he felt it could be just a be a wee bit taller though :)
Thanks KJ and Abegael for building a great kennel!
Check out Sarah in Room 14 who has made this stop motion video for one of the Room 14 daily challenges.

Definitely getting the creativity buzz on.
Thanks for sharing Sarah & Ms Mackay!
Mrs Corlett & Ms Cooke in "The Grove" have been busy keeping their class connections and checking in with their students using Zoom.

It's great to see you all every morning!
Wishing all of our Freyberg Mums
a lovely day this Sunday!

Below is an activity just in case the real flowers are not a happening thing.

Remember it's the little things that count......
a handmade card, maybe breakfast in bed, a hot cuppa
or just a day being reminded how much they love you!

Have a lovely day!!!!!!!
