Newsletter 009
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Following Monday's announcement the school has now moved to COVID-19 Alert Level One.  We are enjoying getting back into our normal routines and welcoming back visitors to our school.

As we have carried out our planning for the transition to Alert Level One, we have had overwhelming positive feedback from both staff and the wider school community about the drop off and pick up procedures.  Our staff have noticed many positive behaviours developing in our children; including improved self management, increased independence, and with the reduction in traffic congestion - a safer environment for our learners.

We have continued to keep a member of staff on the gates during the morning drop off period and you will be able to choose whether to come into school with your child or continue the "hug and go" routine at the gate.

Our school start time remains the same at 8.55 a.m. under Alert Level One, please remember that students must not arrive at school before 8.30 a.m. as teachers use this time to prepare resources for the day.  School has resorted back to our usual 3.05 p.m. finish for all students, for the foreseeable future.

We will continue to have zero tolerance for sickness at school for staff and students - runny noses, sore throats, sore tummies, headaches, coughs, etc.

Thank you again for all of your continued support and understanding over the last few months. As always, if you have questions or comments please contact your child's teacher directly, or the school office at admin@freyberg.school.nz.

A Message from the Office...

We are enjoying our fourth week back at school and it is great to see our students happy, settled and busy outside enjoying the sunshine despite the cooler temperatures.

We are having the usual questions from students who have misplaced their polar fleece jackets and we ask that parents/caregivers please ensure all uniform items are clearly named.  If you need assistance in renaming items we are more than happy to rename the item with our "long lasting" vivid markers.  If your child has accidentally brought home someone else's jacket please return it to the office where it will be returned to the rightful owner.  We have a number of jackets held in the office with no names and would love to return these if you can identify the size and condition, and we will happily rename the item for you.  Please give us a call in the office if you think one of these may belong to your child.

During the lockdown period many parents may have had the opportunity to have a sort out and catch up on overdue chores at home.  If you were busy sorting out your children's cupboards and have any surplus boys underwear no longer required we would be very appreciative to have these as spares for our sickbay.  Thank you in advance for any items sent in to replenish the stocks.

On a final note ......many thanks to our lovely students and staff who took the chance to say "thank you" to myself and our fellow support staff as we celebrated Support Staff Day here at Freyberg.  The wonderful morning tea, decorations and lovely messages (of which there were hundreds!!) were very much appreciated and were a real feel good moment!   Thank you again......you have made our hearts full!

Warmest regards
Mrs Prins
Missing School Uniforms Prior to Lockdown

Lucas Martins from Room 18 is missing his size 10 polar fleece jacket and
Vanshika Kumar in Room 2 is missing her size 8 polar fleece jacket.

Both jackets are clearly named and have possibly been taken home in error in the rush just prior to lockdown. If your child has this at home, kindly return it to the office where it will be returned to the rightful owner.

The lost property collection is continuing to grow!

Below is a picture of a large quantity of drink bottles/containers (all un-named) that have been brought to the office over the past week.  If you recognise that one of these belongs to your child please ask them to pop into the office to collect it.
It seems our Scholastic brochures are lost in transit but there is a new Scholastic Brochure available online for parents/caregivers and their children to view, with many new books and extras.

Please note that the last day
is Friday 12th June.

The school benefits from all purchases and we wish to thank you again for all your support!  Check out the link below...

A Message from Jodie at the Lunchroom

Did you know that the lunchroom sells Spaghetti & Cheese Toasties for just $2.00?

Certainly a nice change for lunch in this cooler weather!

Please note that NOODLES and PASTA are NOT AVAILABLE this term.
Can you help?
We are in need of assistance to replace the box that holds the toys by the sandpit.  The plastic box unfortunately has not held up and we are wanting to replace this with a sturdy, wooden box that is suitable to remain outdoors.  Please note that the picture above is an example of size but not final design.  If you are a builder, know a builder who could quote or are a handyman with experience please contact the school office on (09) 8389664.
Important Information for all  Parents/Caregivers

The Department of Internal Affairs in conjunction with Netsafe and the Office of Film and Literature Classification is  launching a ‘keep it real online’ campaign. This is a New Zealand Government campaign to support parents and caregivers to keep their children safe online, providing info and tips on how to reduce the risks of online harm such as cyber-bullying, inappropriate content, pornography and grooming.

The ‘Keep it real online’ website can be found at:

www.keepitrealonline.govt.nz

We are making these available to all children in Year 4 to 6 classes, on an optional basis this year.  All of the Australian School Competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

Competitions are available in the following areas:
Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, English, Mathematics and Spelling.

Each child who sits the examination will receive a certificate and a detailed results letter. Cost for all online exams are $17.50 per subject.  Please note that exams will only go ahead if we have 3 or more students wishing to attend a particular subject.

Should you require further information and would like an exam registration slip please ring the office.

If your child's exam does not go ahead any money paid will be refunded.  Payment can be made direct to the schools bank account  as follows: 12-3071-0231432-00. Please note your child's name and ICAS as a reference.

Last day for all registrations is Friday 3rd July.
