Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the wet and windy Term Three! We hope you have had a relaxing holiday break with plenty of time to catch up with friends and whānau. This is definitely the cold and flu season so, as always, we encourage good health practices which include keeping children home when they are sick, coughing and sneezing into elbows, washing hands regularly and not touching faces.

You may have noticed that we have two new roller gates at the top of the driveway at the Roberts Road entrance. These have been installed for a number of reasons - but primarily to catch balls rolling down the hill during morning tea or lunch, which have caused children to attempt to chase them down the driveway. This is a safety measure to prevent accidents from occurring and alongside this, keeping the black gate shut after school will help direct our children safely onto the footpath, rather than running across the driveway after the bell has rung.

Please remember to complete the Annual Health Questionnaire if you haven't already - we have included the link below and are always open to constructive feedback.

As our school has made the transition to COVID-19 Alert Level One and welcomed back some sense of normality in our everyday school programme, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our Freyberg Whānau that our school appreciates the very important role that they play in the education of their children. Here at Freyberg we continue to welcome our families to spend time in our school environment, stop by our classrooms and get to know what is going on around our school - we look forward to seeing you as the term unfolds.

If you have questions or comments please contact your child's teacher directly, or the school office at admin@freyberg.school.nz.

Noho ora mai - Stay well,

Maria Dopheide

Classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjuction with the 2020 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating will receive their "pizza wheels" after  visiting the school library this week and every time they finish a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
Good News Travels  Fast !

Congratulations to Madeliene Lee from Room 18 who recently competed on Saturday 4th July at Eutopia Cheerleading Competitions.  This has been the first cheerleading competition held throughout the world since Covid-19.

Madeliene belongs to a team called Mystix Enchanted and her team were successful in placing 3rd in their  level of competition.

What fantastic news and what an awesome opportunity to finally get to compete in these uncertain times.  Hours of practice and hard work does indeed pay off! Placing 3rd is a commendable result against no doubt some tough competition.  Maddie has received awards at previous prizegivings and certainly looks like an up and coming star for her team.

Well done Maddie!

Thank you for your co-operation.

Expressions of Interest to Play Basketball at YMCA Massey

If you are a Freyberg student aged 8 or 9 years old  (but not turning 10 years old in 2020) and interested in playing basketball please check out the information below:

We have an enthusiastic parent who is happy to assist in taking a team.

We need 4 girls and 4 boys to make the team a happening thing!  No previous experience is needed, as long as they are willing to learn, have fun and have parents who are more than ok with mixed game results and happy to see children enjoying themselves!

Costs will be confirmed based on numbers of students involved and with 10 players registration fees would be approx $60 per player.  Games are played on Monday or Tuesday anytime from 3.30 p.m. - 5.30 p.m.

Please register your interest with the school office by Friday 31st July.
A friendly reminder that Tiroroa Ave is a LOOP Road - this means that if you are dropping your children at the Tiroroa gate you DO NOT need to turn around in a driveway. We have noticed a lot of parents from the school and preschool doing this recently and it is very dangerous for our children walking on the footpaths. Please use the loop!!
