Chronicle 016
Kia ora koutou,

It was a big relief for all of us to hear that we have moved back to Level 2 on Monday. I would like to thank you all for the support and resilience you have shown throughout Alert Level 3 and it has been lovely to have been able to welcome our learners back this week.

Just a reminder that while we onsite at Alert Level 2 we must adhere to key health measures, which include:
- Washing or sanitising hands regularly
- Staying home if sick (both staff and students)
- Socially distancing from each other
- Regular cleaning and disinfecting surfaces
- Contact tracing

We know these things will help keep our community as safe as possible during this time. Because of these measures, it is optional whether your child wears a face mask while at school - we support what you think is best.

A reminder that regular attendance at school really matters when it comes to your child's learning and their future. We are here and happy to talk to you about any challenges you are having in ensuring your children attend school regularly.

If you are finding things a little more difficult than usual, we encourage you to visit covid19.govt.nz for more information, or contact us and we can help you find the information and support you need.

Noho ora mai - stay safe,

Maria Dopheide
Principal

A Message from the Office

It was wonderful to see the majority of our students return to school on Monday eager to see us again and of course catch up with their friends!

Below is a friendly reminder of what our "new normal" looks like now that we have returned to school under Alert Level 2...

Similar to last time, Freyberg has decided not to allow parents/caregivers or other visitors on site for the remainder of the time that we are at Level 2.  This is to ensure that any contact tracing required will be as straightforward and simple as possible.  The  only exception to this rule will be for parents of students who are newly enrolled at our school (for example, New Entrants who started on 24th August),  if there is an emergency, or if a visitor has received clearance from school staff.  Any parent/caregiver who falls into this category will be required to sign in and out at the office for contact tracing purposes.

A reminder of the staggered finish times while we are operating under Alert Level 2.

Teams 1 & 2 (Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10) will finish at 2.45 p.m.
Team 3 (Rooms 13, 14, 15, 16 & 22) will finish at 2.55 p.m.  and
Team 4 (Rooms 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21) will finish at 3.05 p.m.

Please ensure that your children arrive at school and are picked up on time as during school hours our gates will be closed to prevent unexpected visitors entering our school.

If you need to contact the office for any reason, to ask any questions or inform us that you are keeping your child at home -  you can do so by calling us on (09) 8389664, texting on 027 364 7271, or emailing admin@freyberg.school.nz.

Warmest regards       Mrs Prins

Student Enrolments for 2021

This term we are calling for all enrolments (in zone and out of zone) for children wishing to attend Freyberg School in 2021.

Applications for both in zone and out of zone students will close on Wednesday 14th October. If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required it will be held on Tuesday 20th October. Parents will be informed of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

If you have a child already attending Freyberg and they have a younger sibling due to start in 2021, paperwork needs to be completed before 14th October.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions regarding your zone status or require a school enrolment form for 2021.

2020 FREYBERG COMMUNITY SCHOOL FUN RUN

- NEW DATE -

As many of you will know we are holding a Freyberg Community School Fun Run as a major fundraising event this term. Our event was originally scheduled to take place this coming Friday but due to the big changes taking place in our school and community as we transition to COVID-19 Alert Level Two, we have made the decision to postpone the event to Friday September 18th.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Freyberg Whānau so much for their AMAZING fundraising efforts so far! At present we have raised over $22,000 which is more than double the national average!

A reminder that all students are able to participate in this big day and that all funds raised will go towards making our outdoor spaces more exciting and engaging for our learners.

If you have not done so already, you can sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.co.nz. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Experience! Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, and the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school!

You can expect to receive an update with specific information about the big day next week, however, if you have any general questions about the Fun Run please contact the School Fun Run Office on 0800 377 170.

Thank you for supporting the school and keep up the great fundraising efforts!

This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjuction with the 2020 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!

Scholastic Book Catalogue
which will be sent home with all students
this Friday.

Online orders only!
During lockdown we received some lovely images
from our Freyberg families.

Below is Marietoa from Room 4 with his sister. They have been very busy biking and exploring outside when the weather was fine.
Such awesome images and such feel good moments!
