Chronicle 014
This week is Support Staff Week and we wanted to show our appreciation for everything that this amazing bunch do for us around the school!
They keep our grounds tidy, help students who need extra support, make sure we are paid correctly, run our library, help our ESOL students, pay our bills, decorate our staffroom, ensure our Community Education classes run smoothly and generally make our school a happy place for our students and staff to be.
There is too much to mention and we really couldn't do what we do without you all so THANK YOU!!

We were recently able to take a select group of House Leaders to collect some new basketball gear from the New Zealand Breakers' North Shore training base - although their season is done for 2021, we thank them for supporting our school and community!

We are making these available to all children in Year 4 to 6 classes, on an optional basis this year.  All of the Australian School Competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

Competitions are available in the following areas:
Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, English, Mathematics and Spelling.

Each child who sits the examination will receive a certificate and a detailed results letter. Cost for all online exams are $18.50 per subject.

Should you require further information and would like an exam registration slip please ring the office.

Payment can be made direct to the schools bank account  as follows: 12-3071-0231432-00. Please note your child's name and ICAS as a reference.

Last day for all registrations is Friday 9th July.

This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjunction with the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
We are excited to share the news that Freyberg Community School will be welcoming the NZ ice skate tour to our school hall! This will be taking place on the night of Monday the 6th of September. This event sold out a few weeks ago so they have very kindly opened up new times from 4pm - so get in quick. The school receives 20% of takings after the event so it is a great fundraiser for us! All students will receive an ice skating lesson during school time so it's a great opportunity for them to show off their new skills.

Please keep collecting your Yummy Apple stickers and coupons from Yummy Fruit and their bags (bought at Pak 'n' Save, New World and Four Square).

We are able to trade these for FREE SPORTS GEAR!

Just stick them onto any piece of paper, send them to school and we can attach them to a collection sheet in your child's classroom.

Thank you in advance for any support you are able to give.
Learn to skateboard with the Young Guns Skate School on Fridays after school. All levels welcome, flexible attendance and spare skateboards/helmets available if needed.  Email simon@younggunsskateschool.co.nz for pricing, bookings and more information.

Check out images below of the keen and enthusiastic students who have signed up to take part and upskill their skating expertise!
Looks like an awesome way to spend a Friday afternoon!
Important Information for All Parents/Caregivers

A concerned parent has informed us that they witnessed one of our precious students being nearly hit by a car at the Tiroroa gate entrance.  This has highlighted the fact that we still have parents reversing down the driveway with little or no vision.

This car park is strictly for staff and there are 5 allocated parking spaces available for preschool parents only.

Please do not reverse down the driveway!

Always ensure you drive out of the gate with clear visibility of all students especially those crossing the carpark entry/exit.

This is a health and safety concern and we expect co-operation in this request.
