Newsletter 011
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we head towards the end of Term 2 and further into winter we have noticed that the traffic has again become a problem, especially at the Tiroroa Ave entrance. We would like to remind you that there is a no parking zone across the road from the gate as well as yellow dotted lines on either side. Please do not drop children in these areas or pull into driveways to let them out. If it is wet, make sure they have a raincoat or umbrella!

As anticipated, new cases of COVID-19 are being identified as New Zealanders return home. While we do not anticipate seeing any cases linked to our community, we would like to reiterate that we have plans in place in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. Support would be provided by them to assist us to communicate with and support our community, staff, and students.

As the end of the term draws nearer we are seeing a lot of sickness in our staff and students. Please continue to follow good hygiene practices and keep children home who display cold and flu symptoms. As always, anyone with these symptoms should ring Healthlink or their local GP.

Thank you again for all of your continued support and understanding over the last few months - it is greatly appreciated. If you have questions or comments please contact your child's teacher directly, or the school office at

Noho ora mai - Stay well,

Maria Dopheide

A Message from the Office...

Term 2 is rushing by and it's hard to believe that we have just  7 1/2 days of school left before we break for the July school holidays.

Last term, in amongst the craziness of Covid-19 our Principal Christine Wilson resigned  to spend more time with elderly parents and of course her grandchildren.  Challenging circumstances meant that we were unable to have the opportunity to farewell her in the typical Freyberg way at the time of leaving.  This has been difficult for staff and of course our Freyberg community and we would like inform you of our updated plans.
Christine never liked a fuss and  therefore it seems appropriate to have a low key school assembly and a small - staff only morning tea. The assembly will take place on Wednesday 1st July at 10 a.m.

We hope you all enjoy a great break over the July holidays and the students return refreshed and busy for a normal term.

Warmest regards
Mrs Prins

A Message for all Freyberg Parents / Caregivers

A friendly reminder that children arriving at school before 8.30 a.m. will not have any supervision by staff.  It is your responsibility to ensure that they are either booked into before school care, being supervised by a caregiver, or dropped off after 8.30 a.m.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Missing School Uniforms Prior to Lockdown

Lucas Martins from Room 18 is missing his size 10 polar fleece jacket.

This jacket is clearly named and has possibly been taken home in error in the rush just prior to lockdown. If your child has this at home, kindly return it to the office where it will be returned to the rightful owner.
A reminder that Tiroroa Ave is a LOOP Road - this means that if you are dropping your children at the Tiroroa gate you DO NOT need to turn around in a driveway. We have noticed a lot of parents from the school and preschool doing this recently and it is very dangerous for our children walking on the footpaths. Please use the loop!!

We are making these available to all children in Year 4 to 6 classes, on an optional basis this year.  All of the Australian Schools Competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

Competitions are available in the following areas:
Science,  English, Digital Technologies,  Mathematics and Spelling.

Each child who sits the examination will receive a certificate and a detailed results letter.  Cost for all online exams are $17.50 per subject.  Please note that exams will only go ahead if we have 3 or more students wishing to attend a particular subject. At present all exams will take place with Digital Technologies being the only exam with insufficient numbers.

Should you require further information and would like an exam registration slip please ring the office.

Please return completed registration slip to the office when payment is made.  If your child's exam does not go ahead any money paid will be refunded. Payment can be made direct to the schools bank account  as follows: 12-3071-0231432-00. Please note your child's name and ICAS as a reference.

Last day for all registrations is Friday 3rd July.
