Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week is Cook Island Language Week - kia ōrāna to all of our fabulous Cook Island families!

Have you visited our art show yet? It is open until 12pm on Friday so make sure you pop in to see all of the creations made by our talented students (and their hard working teachers!). We have a special late night tomorrow (Thursday) until 7.50pm as this coincides with our Student Led Conferences.

Student Led Conferences are a great opportunity to connect with the teachers and hear from your children what they have been learning and what their goals are for the rest of the year. Please book in a time if you haven't already and don't forget to bring your children along - we look forward to seeing you all!

A special welcome to our new teacher, Sophie Gallagher, who will be opening a new entrant class in Room 7 during Week 6. Sophie has already been in to school to do some relieving for us so many of our learners have already met her. We feel very lucky having Sophie joining our team and she will be a valuable asset to our school.

A friendly reminder that all classrooms now have a QR code for the NZ Covid Tracer App. Even though we are at Alert Level 1, we believe it is important to not become complacent so we encourage parents and visitors to make use of these, as requested by the Ministry of Health.

Noho ora mai - Stay well,

Maria Dopheide

Student Enrolments for 2021

This term we are calling for all enrolments (in zone and out of zone) for children wishing to attend Freyberg School in 2021.

Applications for both in zone and out of zone students will close on Wednesday 14th October. If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required it will be held on Tuesday 20th October. Parents will be informed of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

If you have a child already attending Freyberg and they have a younger sibling due to start in 2021, paperwork needs to be completed before 14th October.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions regarding your zone status or require a school enrolment form for 2021.

Congratulations and thank you!

Congratulations to our amazing students who attended
the Te Atatu Cluster Rippa Rugby Tournament yesterday.

Our school teams performed impressively and as always, with commitment and great sportsmanship. Our boys team made it to the final and finished 3rd overall!

A huge thank you  to our fabulous parents/caregivers who at late notice assisted with transport to make this happen for our students.

To those who were able to stay and watch the games.....thank you for your enthusiasm and support from the sidelines - you are truly amazing!  Many thanks also to Mrs Radcliffe and Mr Tevaga for giving up your lunchtimes to help out with trials, practices and of course coaching :)
Wednesday 5th August -  8.30 a.m - 4 p.m
Thursday 6th August - 8.30  a.m - 7.50 p.m
Friday 7th August - 8.30 a.m - Noon

All classes and all children (including children from the Freyberg Preschool and Arohanui classes) have contributed to this art show. Below  is just a small sample of this impressive artwork!

Don't miss this opportunity to come and view your children's fantastic art and celebrate the incredible talent we have here at Freyberg!
This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjuction with the 2020 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
Is your child missing their school jacket?

We currently have some 12 polar fleeces/shower proof jackets (and 2 sweatshirts from Rippa Rugby yesterday) in the school office waiting to be returned to their rightful owners.  Unfortunately all of these jackets are either unnamed or have the name of a student who no longer attends Freyberg.  If you have been given a 2nd hand jacket please ensure that your child's name is clearly marked on the inside of the jacket for easy recognition.  If you recognise  the following name - Cyrus Berghan - and have not updated your child's name please see the school office staff who will happily clearly rename the jacket and return it to you.

A large number of these jackets have been in the office since late May.  Any unclaimed jackets at the end of August will be washed and will be available for distribution.  Please see the office staff if you have any questions.

A child from the junior school has misplaced / lost his bright green camo Garmin Fitbit. This was a gift that is dearly missed and we would appreciate it being returned if your child has inadvertently brought this home.  Please drop it into the school office where it will be returned to its rightful owner.
A Message for all Freyberg Parents / Caregivers

A friendly reminder that children arriving at school before 8.30 a.m. will not have any supervision by staff.  It is your responsibility to ensure that they are either booked into before school care, being supervised by a caregiver, or dropped off after 8.30 a.m.

Thank you for your co-operation.
New from the Lunchroom

Butter Chicken Mini Pie - $3.00

Delivered fresh daily - starting Friday 7th August.  This item will be available at morning tea and lunch time.

You are welcome to pre-order for Friday - should you wish to do this please make a note of this request on the front of your child's lunch order.
A friendly reminder that Tiroroa Ave is a LOOP Road - this means that if you are dropping your children at the Tiroroa gate you DO NOT need to turn around in a driveway. We have noticed a lot of parents from the school and preschool doing this recently and it is very dangerous for our children walking on the footpaths.
Please use the loop!!
