Chronicle 002 / 2nd March 2022

Kia ora Freyberg Whānau,

We would like to reiterate that as a school, we continue to follow all public health recommendations and although we have had confirmed cases of COVID-19 at school there is no evidence to suggest there is any transmission taking place between our tamariki and staff. It is important to note that if your child does not have COVID-19 or is currently isolating as a household contact, the best thing for your child is routine and consistency. This means coming to school as usual and taking part in the planned programme of learning, and enjoying the social engagement with their classmates.

Today we are moving to the next phase of our COVID-19 response model, which is a hybrid of both online and face to face learning. Please click the red button below to access our temporary website and make sure you visit the new 'learning from home' tab. Under this tab you will find fresh resources for each team which reflect the current achievement objectives they are working on this term. The content on this website will be regularly updated and supplemented by our staff with extra work through Seesaw, Google Classroom (Team 4 only) and video conferencing where appropriate. As we continue to cater for our onsite learners, staff will not be able to send home differentiated work to those at home but, as always, will continue to provide this for those students at school.

If you do not have a device or access to the internet, we can provide home learning packs for those who are at home isolating or sick (but asymptomatic) with COVID-19 and are able to have someone collect these from school on their behalf. Unfortunately we cannot provide devices as the students who remain at school will be using them. If you would like a home learning pack because you fit this criteria, please email mariad@freyberg.school.nz. Please only request a home learning pack if you feel that you really need one, as creating these does take some time and staff away from classrooms.

Noho ora mai - stay safe,
Maria Dopheide
Principal

"Chick" This Out!

In 2021 the team 3 classes got to experience chicks hatching in their classrooms.
Many of the other classes visited these chicks as we watched them grow.

The Spackman family homed 4 of these chicks.

Have a look at these photos - the top one is Zafira with a chick on the day they arrived home and the bottom picture is her again with one today.

Haven't they grown?
And they now produce eggs for the family to eat!
A friendly reminder for all our Freyberg Whānau:

What do I do if my child is unwell?

If your child is unwell in any way, please keep them home from school and contact Health line directly on 0800 611 116 for further guidance.

If you child has been requested to undertake a COVID-19 test for any reason, please note the following advice from the Ministry of Health website:

Students are permitted to return to school after receiving a negative COVID-19 test but must be symptom free - i.e. no runny noses or coughs - for a period of 24 hours.

We will continue to operate under a 'zero tolerance' policy for any sickness and will send any learners or staff home immediately if they display any COVID-19 symptoms.

Thanking you in advance for your co-operation in this matter.
School Stationery

All children received stationery lists at the end of last year.  It is crucial for children to get their stationery as soon as possible.

If your child has misplaced their list, please request another from the school office or alternatively email us at admin@freyberg.school.nz should you have any questions.
Room 18 sporting TWO thumbs up for TWOsday last week!
ROAD SAFETY

A few reminders to all regarding road safety:

- Always observe parking restrictions around schools,
please DO NOT park on yellow lines.
- Make sure you park your car appropriately and away from the crossing before letting children in.
- Always use the school crossing to cross the road.
- Children copy us adults, so show them the right thing to do.
-  Always wear your seatbelt and have children restrained properly.

Room 19 Chronicle Contribution
Here in room 19 we have been working on creating self portraits.
Tamariki have been working hard sketching out their portraits before they start adding detail to them.
On one side of their portrait, they drew themselves to look as realistic as possible to show how others see them.
On the other side they have drawn all the things in their lives that are important to them, to reflect how they feel on the inside.
This has been a fun activity that has helped us all get to know each other better and we are very excited to see the finished product!

We would love to share with you what we have created so far!
The Grove

Unfortunately due to some unforeseen staffing shortages around COVID-19, we will not be able to open The Grove (our Room 3 reception class) in week 7 as we had planned. We hope to have it open later in Term 2!

School Hats Missing

Please can you check that your child's school hat is clearly named.

Office staff are more than happy
to assist with  re naming hats
that are no longer clear to read.

We have many students stating that hats have been misplaced during the day.

If your child has taken someone else's hat home in error please get them to pop it into the school office where it will be returned to the rightful owner.
Freyberg School Uniform

The school expects students to take pride in their uniform and wear it correctly at all times.  If students are not in the correct uniform they are required to have a note from home explaining the reason and this must be handed to the school office prior to the start of school on the day concerned.  T-shirts, singlets and other underwear worn for extra warmth must not be visible.

Please ensure that all uniform items are clearly named.
It certainly makes the return of misplaced items much easier and less stressful on children and staff alike.  Please note that it is compulsary for all students to be wearing the school uniform.

School shoes / sandals / jandals are to be black only.
