Surviving the Pandemic of 2020

Join us on the patio for this hands-on one day workshop. 

In this workshop, Susan will give you tools on how to deal with the
visible and invisible manifestations of long-term stressors.

Each activity will be interactive. 

Susan J. Kovalik, classroom teacher, and curriculum innovator for over 35 years has spent the past 25 years developing a model for curriculum and instruction based on brain research. Susan developed the ITI Model Teaching Week, an innovative way to show teachers how Highly Effective Teaching (HET) strategies work with students in their own school. More than 40,000 teachers have attended the one-week experience watching how their students respond to brain-compatible curriculum and instructional strategies and becoming inspired to begin their own HET journey.

Beginning Bridge Lessons

Learn to Play Bridge
Bridge is one of the most popular card games in the world. It's played by millions of people worldwide, in clubs, tournaments, online, and with friends at home.
Bridge will improve memory, concentration skills, judgment, and logic at any age.

This nine-week beginning bridge course is designed for the person who has never played, or who used to play in the distant past! 
Class is limited to 9 students so register today to reserve your space.
COVID-19 protocols at Vintage House will be observed during this class. There will be additional precautions taken that are specific to the Bridge Class as such maintaining social distancing at the tables, cards will be pre-dealt (no shuffling by students), etc.

Beginning French

Art Workshop

with Carol Davis

Do you love art and crafting?
Join the Art Workshop where there is a different project in every class. Activities will include accordion books, painted stones, collaged calendar/visualization board, envelope books, felted wool, watercolor painting, and much more. 

Due to COVID it will be important to bring your own Art Kit, register online before class, sign the Questionnaire and Liability Waiver emailed before class and bring a water bottle. 
ART KIT - Black permanent marker, scissors, glue stick, 5x8” or 8x10” sketchbook/visual journal (or old hardback book and some blank paper), paintbrushes (2 sizes), 4 small bottles of craft paint (white, blue, yellow, red), oilcloth or plastic to cover your area of the table, a magazine with images you like, paper plate or plastic lid for a palette, and a container for water.

Yoga with Weights

On the Patio

Join Elaine Burka for this breath-based practice that builds strength and stability and improves balance.
The focus on the breath makes it centering and meditative.
Classes on the patio will be 6 feet or more apart/ Limited number of spaces available.

You will need: Yoga Mat, Set of 1, 2, or 3-pound Dumbbells, Stability Ball, Water Bottle, and a digitally signed Questionnaire and Liability Waiver before every class.

Bird Watching


Birding is a wonderful, healthy, and easy activity, especially during the Pandemic!

This class combines the academics of birdwatching (ornithology) with the pleasure of field experiences.
You must register for class online by Thursday at 12:00. No yellow tickets.
Sign the Vintage House Questionnaire and Liability Waiver, emailed the day before. 
Wear a mask (required), comfortable shoes, and bring a snack and water.
We plan to do some walking and light hiking – while social distancing.

Active Aging Series

Live Your Best Life Now

Sonoma Valley Hospital and Vintage House have partnered up again for our yearly Active Aging Series. These lectures provide insight and information on how o get the most out of your life in your later years. This year the Active Aging lectures will be held virtually and are open to the community without charge. 

What Moves You to Your Best Personal Health?

Ellen Barnett, MD, Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF School of Medicine, will discuss simple tools we can use every day on our path to our best health and best selves.  Through an interactive process, at the end of the presentation, you will have completed the first step of a new habit of self-care and support. 
Dr. Barnett serves on several subcommittees of the Committee for Health Care Improvement of Health Action for Sonoma County. She also was instrumental in co-creating the pioneering Health Navigator Certificate Program at California’s Sonoma State University. She currently serves as the Director of Outreach and Program Development for the Integrative Medical Clinical Foundation based in Santa Rosa, CA.

Fall Prevention Webinar

Reduce Your Risk of Falling and Preserve Your Independence!

Did you know September is Fall Prevention Month?
Join us for this timely lecture! Dot and Bill will discuss what increases your risk for falling, what you can do to reduce your risk of falling, a suggested safety checklist, the tools and resources to preserve your independence. 

Dot Boyd is passionate about helping older adults protect their safety to preserve their independence. In her role as the family caregiver and advocate for her parents, she has first-hand knowledge and understanding of the challenges we can often face as we grow older. As a Senior Safety Specialist Consultant with Electronic Caregiver, she provides a variety of health and safety devices designed to prevent that from happening to preserve dignity and independence for people of any age.

Bill Essert, a Certified Aging In Place Specialist & licensed contractor, traces his work with seniors a few years back when his mom, Mary lost her balance and took a bad fall. Before she returned home from the rehab facility he retrofitted her home with safety and independence in mind. He designed and installed custom railings, grab bars, and ramps.  What began as a call to family became a vocational call and the inspiration for Bay Grab Bar. In addition to running BGB, Bill is a volunteer for St. Joseph Health, and Vintage House just to name a few.

Virtual Strength and Toning

Level II

Vicki Jackson is back teaching virtually!
Get up and get moving - join us for Strength and Toning.

Each Level II session will be held virtually over the Zoom platform for a 6 week period, plus you will receive a bonus recording of the class each week, to help you continue to build your strength during the week.  We'll be focusing on the major muscle groups and enjoying a total body workout through a set of strength and flexibility exercises. 
To get the most out of this training, you should plan to attend all classes in the session as each class builds on the previous one.

  • You must have completed at least one Strength and Toning Level 1 session. 
  • You must be able to get down to and up from the floor (one time each class).
  • You will need 3-pound weights and an exercise mat. A small towel for neck comfort is recommended.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing in which you can move and be comfortable on the floor.

Vintage House invites you to sign up to receive a daily call from a friendly, trained volunteer at a time of day that works best for you.  What would you love to talk about?  What you are interested in?  A community volunteer will be a cheery voice that you can check in with, who will also have some topics to discuss and may be able to connect you to additional services and resources.
