In 2019, Vintage House's myRide program provided over 5,000 free rides to Sonoma Valley seniors. What is the portrait of a rider? Well, it could be a friend of yours who has had hip or shoulder surgery and can't drive for a while. Or, it could be your 80-year-old dad who can no longer safely drive but is still able to get in and out of a car without assistance.
It is a great program but older adults need a variety of options that will help them stay connected to their community. We at Vintage House are all too familiar with the various "cracks" that older adults fall into when it comes to finding safe, convenient, and accessible transportation options.
Do you have ideas? Opinions? Come down to Vintage House on Friday, February 21, to join a group discussion to share your experiences and help identify transportation barriers, successes, and ideas for improving the transportation system in Sonoma County. The Sonoma County Area Agency hosts the discussion on Aging, and resident input will contribute to the Sonoma County Connected Communities Transportation Study. To register for this event, send an email to aaa@schsd.org or call 707-565-5903.
This presentation will be the first of many that address transportation options, and not all of them involve complicated transportation networks. Keep reading our Friday eblast to stay on top of the latest on the topic!
