"I have been volunteering for Vintage House Delivers since the beginning of May. I started volunteering because I found myself having extra time and I wanted to give back to my community, especially to those that couldn't leave their homes due to COVID-19. Delivering groceries to those smiling eyes has given me more joy than I could have imagined. Volunteering has helped me through rough patches and given me a purpose." - VH Shopper

Thanks to a generous donation from Rebuild Northbay Foundation, Vintage House has been able to secure virtual classrooms that will allow us to continue to deliver programming during this extraordinary time.

Learn to Draw with an Artist's Eye

Jaye Hays

Learn to Draw with an Artist’s Eye is based on the work of Betty Edwards and her groundbreaking book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. By shifting our thinking from the sensible, symbolic, logical left brain to the more playful, flexible, and holistic right brain, we can learn to see well, and the factor that determines the ability to draw is the ability to see.

Over the course of six weeks, we will engage in a series of activities that highlight perception as a skill for drawing; making the shift from left to right brain thinking; how to perceive edges, shapes and contours; discerning the shape of negative space; and how to use your pencil to solve the problem of perspective. Finally, we will study methods of introducing lights and shadows into your drawings. Additionally, we will briefly look at what happens developmentally to cause many of us avid two- and three-year-old doodlers to abandon our love of drawing.

Get ready to relax into the pleasures of drawing with an artist’s eye.
