Upcoming Workshop
Storage Books with Susan Viguers
Saturday, April 27, 2019
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Registration opens today at 12:00 PM

In this workshop you will construct a simple storage book made of folded card stock in which windows have been cut, held together with a spine. What is stored need not be flat, although it is easier to work with pieces that are less than about 1/16 inch thick. We will be making a model and then, if time, a more fully realized book. Images and thin objects to be stored will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

All needed tools will be supplied, but, if you have them, bring any of the following: scissors, glue stick, X-Acto knife, cutting mat, pens/pencils, and ruler. If you’ll need some nourishment during that time, bring it with you.

Please join us at Fisher Fine Arts Library, part of Penn Libraries, to explore the breadth of its collections, from historical rare books about landscape architecture to contemporary artist books to a Materials Library and a letterpress studio. Come to be inspired, and learn about an upcoming opportunity for a Book Artist in Residence at the library - a collaboration of Philadelphia Center for the Book and Common Press. (Attendance is strongly encouraged for potential Artist-in-Residence applicants.)

The Fisher Fine Arts Library supports study, teaching and research in contemporary and historical aspects of art, architecture, city and regional planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, studio art, and urban design. Text and image collections, in analog and digital form, have a global reach and concentrate on the arts of the western experience, Islam, South Asia and East Asia, from prehistory to the present.
