Why Fix What isn't Broken?
Gerrymandering, the manipulation of district lines for political gain, has been a major issue across the United States. Idaho, however, is one of the only places that has successfully avoided gerrymandering. For years, Idaho has been an excellent example of a state with fair and transparent district lines.
Legislation introduced by House Speaker. Scott Bedke would alter the state Constitution in order to secure the number of legislative districts in Idaho. Idaho legislators must exercise tremendous caution when attempting to mend the constitution. This legislation is especially concerning because it ties the hands of future legislators. For several years, our district lines have worked for Idahoans. Why would we want to make unnecessary changes that would limit the ability for future growth?
