Happy New Year from Friends of City Gardens!
Dear <<First Name>>
Spring seems to be starting early this year, with snowdrops and winter aconites already flowering in City gardens. FoCG volunteers did a great job in the autumn planting bulbs to provide nectar and pollen for early emerging pollinators. Volunteers have also continued to feed the birds during the winter and have cleaned all the bird boxes in the City.
As a thank you to volunteers, the City would like to invite you to a reception on 10 February:
Reception to thank volunteers at Guildhall
And another invitation........
Wednesday 20 January at 7.30 pm
The Barbican Horticultural Society have extended an invitation to FoCG volunteers to join them for a talk on The Painted Garden by garden historian Russell Bowes www.capabilitybowes.com The evening will take you on a virtual tour through some of the major art galleries of the world illustrating the history of gardening. From Egyptian tomb paintings to London Underground posters via an unseemly scramble for very expensive tulip bulbs and the landscapes of Capability Brown, all the major trends and fashions in the history of gardening are explored through the medium of paintings.
The cost will be £3 per head for BHS members and £5 per head for guests – to be paid on the door - to include a glass of wine. As the venue is the Lilac Room in the Barbican, please contact BHS if you need to be let into the building by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
And there are some opportunities to do some more volunteering
