Community Action Committee
RACM Annual Backpack Drive

During July and August, Association Members and participating REALTOR® offices rallied to provide backpacks and school supplies to children that might otherwise go without.  Items donated included backpacks, pens, pencils, crayons, highlighters, glue, binders, rulers, along with many other essentials for students starting school in the Fall.  One day of “backpack stuffing” by Committee members and RACM Staff took place in August so that a full supply was available for distribution at the start of the school year. This year’s backpack drive saw 330 backpacks donated to school children throughout Worcester County. This is an annual drive and anyone needing future assistance should contact the REALTOR® Association of Central Massachusetts.
IHN Rehab Day

Members of The REALTOR® Association of Central Massachusetts (RACM) volunteered on Wednesday, August 9th at the Interfaith Hospitality Network in Worcester. IHN, Inc., one of the REALTOR® Association of Central Massachusetts Community Action Committee’s charities of choice for 2017, provides shelter and assistance to families with children who are homeless. Members of RACM spent the day painting and making general repairs to their property at 91 June Street, Worcester. “After IHN, Inc. had been chosen as one of our charities of choice, the committee visited the property and instantly recognized an opportunity to help. As always, the committee and the board stepped up in a huge way” said Keith Krikorian, Chair of the Community Action Committee.

Call For Action

2017 MAR President Paul Yorkis explains the upcoming Call For Action that the National Association of Realtors® will be sending out regarding flood insurance legislation.

Dear Member,

Without Congressional action by September 30, 2017authority for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will expire. If the NFIP lapses, more than 40,000 real estate transactions per month will be in jeopardy.

Urge your member of Congress to pass “The 21st Century Flood Reform Act” H.R. 2874 as soon as possible.

H.R. 2874 contains numerous provisions of critical importance to consumers and REALTORS:

  • Reauthorizes NFIP for a full 5 years, avoiding the uncertainty of short term extensions and potential shutdowns
  • Caps NFIP rates at $10,000 per year for property owners
  • Directs FEMA to develop more granular rate tables, to ensure fewer properties are over charged by NFIP
  • Sets aside $1 billion for flood mitigation assistance grants
  • Increases access to private market flood insurance

Tell Congress to PASS Flood Insurance Reform Now!

Done In A Day Volunteer Opportunity
The National Association of REALTORS® has once again awarded our Government Affairs Committee a grant for $2500 to help the town of Warren clean up the Lucy Stone Park, which has become overgrown with vegetation.

The goal is to beautify the park and have it be a community gathering place with kayaking, bike and walking trails. The grant money will be used to buy plants, shrubs etc. and their first volunteer day is Saturday, September 9th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

They are looking for volunteers to plant, mulch and do some weeding. If you are interested and can lend us a hand for a few hours, please email the Association. Lucy Stone Park is located on the left hand side of Old West Brookfield Rd. just before the sports field at Quaboag Regional High School (284 Old West Brookfield Rd.
