School of the Month:
DeLaSalle Charter High School
CIS of Mid-America Student Support Coordinator Emmaniel Maxi

DeLaSalle Charter High School emphasizes the importance of attending school on time. Communities In Schools (CIS) of Mid-America's Student Support Coordinator (SSC) Emmaniel Maxi has developed incentives to encourage students to improve attendance. One of these incentives is the Attendance Matters Monthly Raffle. Each month, students who arrive at school on time for two weeks are entered into a raffle where they can win prizes. One group of raffle winners went on a tour of Arrowhead Stadium.

In little over a month, the SSC helped the 10th-grade attendance rate increase from 69% to 79% by making attendance phone calls.

"Emmaniel is very good and personable with our students. He is innovative, creative, and a self-starter." – Mental Health Coordinator at DeLaSalle Charter High School
CIS of Mid-America's SSC took a group of students to the Department of Motor Vehicles so they could get their Learner's Permit. By the end of the year, 19 students earned their Learner's Permit. The SSC hopes to partner with community members who will offer Driver's Ed at a free or reduced rate so students can get their License by Spring 2023.
CIS of Mid-America's SSC partnered with Drs. Hawks, Besler, Rogers, & Stoppel Optometrists to provide 17 students with free eye exams and eyeglasses. The community partner donated over $5,000 worth of products.
"Mr. Maxi has proactively reached out and brought in additional resources for the school and is always thinking ahead, creatively, on ways to improve school attendance." – Director of Student Life
CIS of Mid-America's Student Support Coordinator helped secure in-kind donations so three students could purchase shoes, shirts, blazers, and haircuts for the school's homecoming dance.
CIS of Mid-America's Student Support Coordinator took the Attendance Matters Monthly Raffle winners to see the Broadway Musical, Mean Girls at Music Hall.
"It has been great having Mr. Maxi at our school. He connects well with the students and is always available to counsel, direct, and help students work through difficulties they were experiencing." – Marlene Donelson
