Miami DSA Steering Committee Nominations

Now is your chance to help lead your local chapter of the largest socialist organization in the country. The Miami DSA Nominations Committee is looking for candidates to run for Steering Committee, composed of two Co-Chair positions, a Treasurer, Communications Coordinator and Membership Coordinator.

Nominations will be officially opened two weeks before the elections, which will be held on Sunday, July 14 at our 2019 General Meeting, but prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the Nominations Committee ahead of time. We particularly encourage members who are Latinx, people of color and/or non-cis male identifying to run, as our bylaws state that those communities should make up a majority of the Steering Committee.  The Nominations Committee can be contacted by email at

This week our current Steering Committee will be meeting at 7pm on Wednesday at the Starbucks on 63rd and Biscayne.  We encourage all prospective candidates to attend!
South Florida BDS Meeting
Join the South Florida BDS Coalition this Friday at 7pm at the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ for their monthly meeting to get involved in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.  At Miami DSA's last meeting, we proudly became a member of the coalition. The political successes of the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) has led states like Florida to relentlessly push anti-BDS legislation. You can read our a resolution in support of BDS and in opposition to anti-BDS legislation from October.

Miami Tenants Union Fundraiser

On Saturday, June 22nd at 7pm come to Space Mountain Miami for a fundraiser benefiting the Miami Tenants Union. Their organizers will discuss the ongoing fight in Liberty City and talk about previous wins that their organizers have accomplished. There will be refreshments and a DJ spinning tunes.

Donations will be used to provide material support to tenants facing eviction and purchase appliances and portable air-conditioning units.

The Miami Tenants Union is a tenant-focused group committed to winning better living conditions in the Magic City by uniting renters and taking power from the slumlords and managers.

You can donate to their GoFundMe here.

2020 Ballot Initiatives Canvassing

Join us for our weekly canvasses to petitions for possible 2020 state-wide ballot initiatives like Medicaid Expansion, $15/hour Minimum Wage and Cannabis Legalization.  Our next canvass will take place on Saturday, June 15th at 11:30am.  We will be grouping at the Panther Coffee location in Little Haiti before we knock doors.  Hope to see you there!

No Shortcuts

How can our movement start to build true political power?  Join us for our next political education reading series on June 25 where we will be discussing Jane McAlevey's No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Guilded Age, which attempts to answer this question through the lens of labor organizing. This event will compliment a series of mass calls DSA is holding with the author, where she will be giving remarks and taking questions from members. You can RSVP here for the next of these on June 26th.

Beach Fundraiser

Sadly this past Sunday's beach fundraiser was cancelled due to thunderstorms.  No fear– we have rescheduled for Sunday, June 30th.  All proceeds will benefit our delegation traveling to DSA's National  Convention in Atlanta.  You can donate to our Gofundme here.

Bern, baby, Bern

At our April Monthly Meeting we voted overwhelmingly to endorse Bernie Sanders' 2020 Presidential campaign. We are still in the early stages of forming our campaign, and  we hope to begin rolling it out in the coming months.  If you would like to get involved in this historic campaign, please shoot us a message.

Donate to Miami DSA!

For nearly the entirety of DSA's history in Miami, we've organized, served our community, offered trainings and educational events with virtually no money. You can help us expand and sustain our work by becoming a monthly sustainer or giving a one-time donation. Thank you so much for your support.
