Miami DSA Steering Committee Nominations

Now is your chance to help lead your local chapter of the largest socialist organization in the country. The Miami DSA Nominations Committee is looking for candidates to run for Steering Committee—two Co-Chair positions, Treasurer, Communications Coordinator and Membership Coordinator.

Nominations will be officially opened two weeks before the elections, which will be held on Sunday, July 14 at our 2019 General Meeting, but prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the Nominations Committee ahead of time. We particularly encourage members who are Latinx, people of color and/or non-cis male identifying to run, as our bylaws state that those communities should make up a majority of the Steering Committee.

The Nominations Committee can be contacted by email at

Beach Potluck and Fundraiser

What's a revolution without time for the beach?

Join us at North Shore Open Space Park on Sunday, June 9 at 1pm for a potluck-style picnic and BBQ at the beach. There we will be collecting funds to help send our delegates to DSA's National Convention in early August.

The Convention isn't shaping out too cheap for our four elected delegates. If you aren't able to make it out, we urge you to consider donating to our GoFundMe, allowing comrades of all financial means to rep Miami DSA.

See you on the sand!

DJs at SBS need your support!

SAG-AFTRA members and allies will be rallying at 10am on Thursday, June 6 to support DJs across the country who are fighting for a fair contract with Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS), one of the top Spanish-language radio companies in the US.  Come through to celebrate our solidarity, mingle and grab a bit to eat– they will be speaking out against the unfair treatment of SBS DJs and having a great time doing it!

For over three years SBS DJs in Los Angeles in Chicago have been working to improve salaries and working conditions to achieve fairness on the job at the SBS stations where they work.  On June 6 SBS shareholders will be meeting in Miami, and we need a show of solidarity to let them know we stand with the DJs and won't back down until the company does what's right.
When: Thursday, June 6 @ 10am
Where: Pablo Raúl Alarcón Media Center (7007 NW 77th Ave)

Miami DSA votes to join South Florida BDS Coalition
At this past Sunday's monthly meeting, we proudly became an official member of the South Florida BDS Coalition. The political successes of the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) has led states like Florida to relentlessly push anti-BDS legislation. You can read our a resolution in support of BDS and in opposition to anti-BDS legislation from October.  Their next meeting will take place on Friday, June 14th at the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ at 7pm.

2020 Ballot Initiatives Canvassing

Join us for our weekly canvasses to petitions for possible 2020 state-wide ballot initiatives like Medicaid Expansion, $15/hour Minimum Wage and Cannabis Legalization.  Our next canvass will take place on Saturday, June 8th at 11:30am.  We will be grouping at Flava's in West Perrine before we knock doors.  Hope to see you there!

No Shortcuts

How can our movement start to build true political power?  Join us for our next political education reading series on June 25 where we will be discussing Jane McAlevey's No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Guilded Age, which attempts to answer this question through the lens of labor organizing. This event will compliment a series of mass calls DSA is holding with the author, where she will be giving remarks and taking questions from members. You can RSVP here for the next of these on June 26th.

Bern, baby, Bern

At our April Monthly Meeting we voted overwhelmingly to endorse Bernie Sanders' 2020 Presidential campaign. We are still in the early stages of forming our campaign, and  we hope to begin rolling it out in the coming months.  If you would like to get involved in this historic campaign, please shoot us a message.

Donate to Miami DSA!

For nearly the entirety of DSA's history in Miami, we've organized, served our community, offered trainings and educational events with virtually no money. You can help us expand and sustain our work by becoming a monthly sustainer or giving a one-time donation. Thank you so much for your support.
