September 10, 2020: New Flyer to make history with deployment of North America's first automated transit bus

New Flyer, in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), Robotic Research, and Center for Transportation and Environment, will deploy North America's first automated transit bus. New Flyer's SAE Level 4 automated, zero-emission transit buses will support CTDOT's pursuit of integrated mobility through its demonstration project to:

Demonstrate Level 4 autonomy developed on Xcelsior CHARGE™ battery-electric buses;
Use automated bus docking at CTfastrak stations to increase accessibility; and
Illustrate platooning capabilities to maintain more efficient headways between buses.

The project marks continued advancement of automated technology in public transit. New Flyer is proud to lead the industry in developing of safe, smart, and sustainable mobility solutions.

AC Transit expands BRT in California with hybrid buses from New Flyer

The Alameda Contra-Costa Transit District (AC Transit) has launched its new Tempo BRT line with 27 new low-emission, articulated hybrid buses from New Flyer. The service, connecting Uptown Oakland with the San Leandro Transit Center, features multi-door, level boarding at each station.

Canada's Department Of National Defence adds more MCI coaches

Canada's Department of National Defence has ordered more J4500 coaches from Motor Coach Industries. The 16 new coaches will be used to transport Canadian Armed Forces personnel and are part of a two-year contract, with an additional 12 coaches to be delivered by 2022. The J4500 coach has been the industry's best-seller for 14 consecutive years, featuring a more spacious interior for riding comfort.
