DECEMBER 12, 2019
Dear Colleagues,

It is the holiday season.  A time to reflect and consider the year past, and the year to come.  Depending on those two factors, we recognize this could be a time of complete joy and peace or a more difficult season for one reason or another.  Wherever you find yourself, our warmest wishes are with you.

My hope is that you take the time to heal, refresh, laugh, cry, hug and hustle through the next few weeks.  And, if helpful, consider expressing yourself through poetry, art, singing, or volunteering. It is a time of gratitude and giving, a time to do the things that fill our cup.

Happiest of holidays to you,

Christopher M. Mullin, Ph.D.
Director, Strong Start to Finish
Throughout November Strong Start to Finish engaged its Scaling Sites as we introduced a new funding opportunity to support targeted work in their respective areas.

This opportunity is now being extended to systems and state-located entities that are ready to take on developmental education reforms.  More information about how to become a Strong Start to Finish Seeding Site will be posted on Monday, December 16th here.

Grants are for two years and can be up to $300,000.
Recent Strong Start to Finish publications include new pieces of evidence shared as Points of Interest;
  • Not Just Access, But Success. (November 6, 2019). This Points of Interest shows the increases in throughput rates for colleges that broadened access to transfer-level math courses.
  • Narrowing the Access Gap (November 13, 2019). This Points of Interest shows that expanding access to transfer-level coursework can narrow the access gap for students of color.
  • Accelerating Throughput. (November 20, 2019). This Points of Interest shows the increase in throughput rates for transfer-level math courses following adoption of accelerated math pathways.
  • Predictor of Success. (November 22, 2019). This Points of Interest shows the usefulness of cumulative high school GPA as one predictor of student success in college-level math courses.
