Update From the Trails

Happy 2020 from the trails! First off, I want to thank everyone who used my links during the holidays to support the site. I know it's a bit of a pain, so I appreciate it immensely. It's such a privilege to be creating these guides, and I couldn't do it without you.

This winter has been off to a busy start with lots of miles on the trails doing recon for new guides. While the mountains have been clobbered with snow, I've been hitting many of the trails in the lowlands and desert. Look for lots of guides coming out in the following weeks. And as always, if there is a specific hike or topic that you'd like me to cover, feel free to contact me.
Have a Grand Time at the Grand Canyon
If you haven't been hiking in the Grand Canyon, make 2020 the year you do. Even a 2-3 day visit with some day hikes will be spectacular. I've been going for years, and I've just created guides for all the significant South Rim day hikes. In 2020 there will be more guides from the park, including Rim to Rim.
Trouble At Yosemite
I spent quite a bit of time at Yosemite this past summer and intended to get a comprehensive set of guides up for you before the 2020 season, but all didn't go as planned. First off, while climbing the cables at Half Dome in a long line of hikers, I had someone in front of me slip and fall, knocking me (and others) down the slope. Everyone who got hit managed to grab hold of a pole, cable, or another person, and was okay, but the experience definitely shook me. A few weeks later, someone fell to their death in the same place I've done the cables many times, but I've never had this happen. I've decided to use a harness on the cables moving forward, and I'll have a guide for that up this year.

And then I had some technical issues and lost a ton of footage due to a failed memory card in my camera. But I do have footage that survived, and you'll see a trickle of Yosemite hikes coming out in the next few weeks with a beefier followup this summer.
