Quick Hiking News Update

  • For InReach users > Garmin IS now offering SAR rescue insurance again through the Explore website dashboard (where your account settings are located). Evidently its disappearance from the account page for a handful of weeks was a technical error. This supplemental insurance helps covers the cost of a rescue if you are charged. However the Medevac insurance has been discontinued. That was the more expensive option where you could be flown back to your home hospital after the rescue.
  • The San Gorgonio Wilderness remains closed aside from the Aspen Grove Trail, but now they have an online permit system. So when it does all open back up, no more emails or fax machines.
  • Google maps satellite photography has been updated and now shows fire damage from last year's Bobcat and El Dorado fires.
  • Gaia GPS joined up with Outside Magazine.
  • Edgar McGregor picked up trash at Eaton Canyon, LA every single day for **589** days. Yesterday he declared it completely free of municipal trash!
  • If you visited the website in the last week or two and something was messed up, I had some tech issues. Everything should be good to go now (and a little faster even).
I'm trying out the new Osprey Talon Pro 30 (right). I've tried many packs, and over the last few years I kept coming back to my Osprey Talon 33 (left), which has worked great in all situations, from short hikes, to long day hikes, to overnight backpacking trips. I'll keep you posted on how the new Pro 30 pans out.
Lots of animal tracks in Cleveland National Forest today after yesterday's rain, including lots of ones from mountain lions.

As always, thank you for your support!
