Annual AERC Meeting and Congressional Briefing
Each newsletter highlights an AERC member group, organization, individual, event or opportunity that is working on impactful ecosystem research. This serves as a way for the AERC community to stay up-to-date on fellow members' work and dedication to ecosystem science research and applications.

On October 3-4 several members of the AERC community came together in Washington, DC to discuss the Association's current status and future endeavors. On the first meeting day participating members took part in a workshop hosted by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) about communicating science and research with policymakers and the media. AIBS presented not he basics of good communication. how to craft a compelling message, and how to engage in public policy.

On day two, AERC hosted a congressional briefing about the role of ecosystem science in securing freshwater resources. The briefing welcomed three esteemed speakers:
  • Dr. Margaret Palmer, Distinguished university Professor at the University of Maryland who discussed ecosystem science of intermittent streams and wetlands.
  • Dr. Cliff Dahm, Emeritus Professor at the University of New Mexico, who discussed how ecosystem research informs policy in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the San Francisco Bay.
  • Dr. Steve Davis, Senior Ecologist at the Everglades Foundation, who discussed Everglades restoration ad the role of science.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us this year at the AERC annual meeting!
