Newsletter : January Update

We're excited to have many projects in the pipeline, with 8 projects submitted for permitting in December alone. The winter is our busiest time with much preparation for spring construction, so please let us share some of our design considerations and latest projects:

Napa Hills Remodel

This single level property in the wooded hills of Napa is getting a complete overhaul, with interior layout, finishes and fixtures completely replaced. The three initial concept designs where essential for helping the client make decisions they never knew to consider, and their reactions towards features helped steer the design characteristics forward. These open-minded clients are tremendous fun to work with and aren't afraid to tackle the big what-if questions that normally make the design process intimidating for a home owner, so we are happy to be able to facilitate this exploration.
Permit Submissions

December saw us permit 8 separate projects: 3 at Sonoma City and 5 at Sonoma County. These projects vary in scale, from a small kitchen remodel to a new 1000 sqft Guest House, and each required a permit set to be submitted for review. Over January we expect inspectors to visit the project sites to review the existing conditions before issuing the permits required to start building. Review times vary depending on the scale of work and the jurisdiction, so we use this time as the opportunity to build out finishes and fixtures lists for each client.
New Project Surveys

Before we begin to approach the design phase for a remodel project we first need to survey the existing property. Sometimes home owners have plans or the jurisdiction holds records of past permits which you may think would suffice as a starting point for design, however there is no guarantee that the work was executed exactly as it was designed on paper. This is why it is so important to survey a property from top to bottom, to reduce the risk of unwanted surprises later on.
Vernal Kitchen Dinner Party

We are extremely grateful to our clients for allowing us to hold a dinner party at their home for local industry professionals, as well as past, present and prospective clients. The Vernal Kitchen remodel project was very well received and we were pleased to have had such a full attendance. Thank you to all those who came!
Welcome Sam!

We would like to welcome Samuel Hayward as the latest associate of our firm. Sam is an accomplished draftsman with a background in video game design, which has been invaluable in the consideration of volume and flow of spaces he designs. He has completed a wide variety of different architectural projects with their unique problem solving opportunities, and we look forward to working together extensively throughout 2019.
