Karate Class Information


Hello Parents,

It is with much excitement that we announce that we  have martial arts added to our Island Academy classes.

These classes will be done in partnership with Yaruki karate club (formerly PDK Dojo).

Below is some important information for you if you want to register your children for the classes.

What type of Martial Arts?
Yaruki Martial Arts teaches a traditional form of Japanese Shotokan Karate, focusing on discipline, respect, teamwork and concentration.

These sessions will not be operating on public holidays and school holidays.
Schedule & Class Sizes
Yaruki karate club will be operating in The Island OOSH on;

Wednesdays from 5:00pm - 5:45pm
(Kinder to year 2)
&
Fridays from 5:00pm - 6:00pm

(for year 3 to year 6)


Class sizes for now will be capped at 15 students for each class, which may change during the school term.
Carer & Student Responsibility
Your are responsible to make sure:


Your child/children have water bottles for hydration at training.

Your child/children have their own karate gloves.

Your child/children has a karate uniform or has loose comfortable clothing (please avoid school uniforms).
 
How to Purchase Equipment
Karate Gloves
It is a requirement that all students are to have their own karate gloves, for safety and hygiene reasons. This equipment can be purchased through the karate club for $30.

Make sure gloves are brought to every training session.

Karate Uniforms
Karate uniform is optional and can be purchased at a cost of $40. If a student does not have a karate uniform then loose comfortable clothing is preferred Avoid school uniforms if possible.
 
How to Pay for Equipment
All payments will be made to the staff of Yaruki karate club and not The Island OOSH.

Grading Process
Kinder to Year 2 Students
Students are to attend a minimum of 8 sessions to be eligible for a grading.
Gradings will be held at the end of each school term at a cost of $20. If successful the student will receive a new belt and certificate.

Year 3 to Year 6
Gradings are performed at the end of each term, to proceed to their next belt.
Gradings are by invitation only, by your sensei. Students must attend their required number of training sessions to be eligible to grade and must meet the grading curriculum requirement. (unless under special
circumstances).

During the process of a term, students will be assessed for the ability to perform the requirements of the grading. Their assessment will be done during class and awarded with a coloured tip, according to the curriculum.

SIX colours are required for a grading and must be present on the students belt.

Grading fee is $35 and payable at the end of each term, prior to the event, Successful students will receive a new belt and certificate.
Enrolment
Spaces will be given on a first come basis. Due to the classes being new the class size will be capped at 15 students for each class, during the semester class sizes will increase.
