What is CBT and
how can it help you?

Victory over negative emotions

Ministry is hard and at times we can find ourselves feeling discouraged frustrated and hopeless.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has a become a common and effective way to treat depression, anxiety, OCD, and many other psychological issues. However, it’s basic precepts are useful for many individuals in everyday life to have victory over negative moods and emotions.

CBT, at its core, teaches that cognitions (thoughts) influence emotions which fuel behaviors. When our thoughts are positive or neutral we do not suffer negative emotions. However, when we notice a negative mood, chances are our mood is being influenced by negative thinking.

Anyone can incorporate the basics of CBT to improve their lives.

Scripture repeatedly speaks to the power we have in our thought lives. Philippians 4:8 certainly speaks to this!

It is our prayer that the video and handout resources below are a quick, practical help to you and your ministry when it comes to changing your thought life to better manage your emotions.

Scripture & Prayer Prompts

Some Scriptures that are worth meditation and prayer include:
  • Philippians 4... where are your thoughts focused when you feel hard emotions?
  • Romans 12... what is renewing your MIND?
  • Colossians 3... are your heart and mind set on the things above or the things of earth?
  • Ephesians 4... how do you handle hard emotions, like anger?
Lord, grant me victory in my thought life. Help me claim the power given to me through the Holy Spirit to cast down thinking that does not glorify you, and to cling to what is true and right that I may honor You with my thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
