Planning in an uncertain future

One of the skills to be learnt in ministry is the ability to plan well, to assess risk and to develop contingency plans.

At a time in which there is so much uncertainty over the impact of the Covid-19 virus, and there are so many opinions and predictions, it is difficult for us to assess what is deemed "safe" and what is prudent.

If it has not already happened, most of you will be facing the very real possibility of not being able to continue meeting as a youth group over the coming weeks. You'll be dealing with young people who are disappointed over the cancellation of Easter Camp and possibly other youth activities. You'll likely have already had contact with young people who are struggling with anxiety and have important questions related to life and faith.

Into this context, we have the opportunity to really listen to young people's fears and frustrations and navigate them toward hope with questions and insights that allow them to deepen their trust in God.

And while we may lament the missed opportunity of an Easter Camp or the loss of regular gatherings, God's will is not thwarted nor frustrated.

We're not the first to have our freedom to meet limited but, rather than despairing what we lose, let's use our creativity and hope to see what good God can bring from this.

Support through the Covid-19 pandemic

CCCNZ have prepared a helpful resource page for churches with links to articles and resources for families. We highly recommend you read it.

Additionally, we're holding a Zoom call for youth pastors/leaders this Friday morning, 20 March at 10am for any who are interested.

We may make this a regular catch up if there are enough people wanting to talk about this so if you can't make it this Friday let us know if you'd like to catch up in future.

You'll need to download Zoom ahead of time at

For the meeting go to, or download their app and use the meeting ID: 336 027 9436.

For those who can't make it, I'll keep a record of points and ideas worth circulating and we'll make these available to everyone.

CCCNZ Youth Events

We continue to plan for our term two events, aware that all are conditional on developments surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

We're monitoring the Ministry of Health website and will make any future decisions according to whatever recommendations they give and what seems wise at the time.

In the meantime check out details of the following events on our website. We're still accepting registrations and any payments received will be fully refunded if we need to cancel these events.

Comings and goings

The following people have recently accepted leadership roles in youth ministry within their churches. Great to have you join us as part of our CCCNZ Youth family! If we've missed someone new, please let us know:

  • Eli and Noelle Savill: Manawaru Bible Church
  • Doug Benn: Ingestre St, Whanganui
  • Sarah Mitchell: Church on Vogel, Palmerston North
  • Jono Chaplow: LifeSwitch, Upper Hutt
At the same time, we're sorry to say farewell (at least for now) to Chris Northcott (Lincoln Rd Bible Chapel), Selwyn Motu (Tamaki Community Church) and Kopano Simanu (LifeChurch Manurewa) who are stepping back to focus on other opportunities.

Thanks for the amazing work you've each done. It's been great having you involved with us in our events.
