At Vivo we believe the recipe for raising healthier generations doesn't have to be complicated. When people are active and socially connected, their lives improve. Open-ended, spontaneous outdoor play is one of the most accessible, adaptable and inclusive ways of bringing those two ingredients to the community.

You are invited to participate in a research project: How Do MRU Practicum Students Talk About Information in Practice?

This study will gather information about how students in health and human services programs learn about professional practice during their practicum placements, and how they find and use information in the workplace.

The objective of this study is to inform how we teach information literacy and research skills at MRU, and to help us understand what skills, knowledge and practices are relevant in health and human service workplaces.

What would my involvement entail?
You would participate in one group interview with students from practicum courses in different programs, including Criminal Justice, Social Work, Child Studies, Nursing, and Health & Physical Education. The interview will last about 45 minutes and will be audio recorded. Prior to the interview, you would also review and sign a consent form, and complete a brief questionnaire. The entire duration of your participation would be about 60 minutes.
Please note that you may incur parking costs if you choose to drive to campus to participate in an interview.

To participate please complete and submit the form found here:

This webinar shares insight into the experiences of pre-service teachers and introduces efforts underway in B.Ed. programs designed to foster wellbeing and help shift the tide from burning out to burning in, and from surviving to thriving in the profession. Participants will be introduced to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Pre-Service Teachers’ Stress Management and Resilience Program developed by the Faculty of Education at McGill University. Ever Active Schools will also share their innovative initiatives supporting the advancement of pre-service teacher wellness.

HPED Staff Highlight
Lindsey Wynder - HPED Academic Advisor
Lindsey has been the lead Academic Advisor for the Department of Health and Physical Education since October 2015 but has worked at Mount Royal since 2009. Lindsey played volleyball at Mount Royal and graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership degree. Her most favourite part of her job is interacting with students and helping them navigate their post-secondary experience. Most importantly she can help students plan to be on track for graduation...which is kind of important. When Lindsey is not advising she’s often spending time outside with her husband and two kids. Lindsey enjoys lots of different activities but some of her favourites are hiking, rock climbing, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and swimming. Fun fact about Lindsey, she attended daycare at Mount Royal....back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

Digestion Woes

You don’t know what you have until it's gone. This fits digestion so well. We often take for granted our digestive process until we develop abdominal pain. Our digestive system has an intricate system of blood vessels and nerves connected through an extensive part of our body, and this has a HUGE impact on our sense of daily well-being. By making some healthy choices in the foods we eat we can support a healthy gut. These include daily fibre intake, regular meals, and movement to help the gut ‘go’! Check out ‘tips for healthy digestion’ to maximize a healthy gut.

Sam Taylor

When I entered MRU I was a below-average student, at best. Over the course my time within the HPED faculty however, I really came into my own and began to find success. In my opinion, a huge part of this success is directly attributable to the HPED faculty itself and all the phenomenal professors within the program. Offering up their spare time, seemingly all the time, made a world of difference in my experience, and is something unlike any other program. My time at MRU took more than a few turns; from being set on joining the police, to aspiring to be a teacher, and concluding with heading to law school. Going from a physical education minded degree to pursuing law school might seem like a far jump. However, I believe that because of the supportive environment fostered by the HPED faculty I was able to work through my future aspirations, attain the academic requirements necessary to meet those aspirations and eventually, actualize those aspirations.
