Nutrition and Wellness Tips

Nutrition Tip

A gut reaction to red wine

Is red wine good for your health? The Mediterranean Diet is generally recognized as a healthful dietary pattern to follow, and it includes red wine in moderation. Why does the Mediterranean diet not include spirits, beer, or white wine? The answer might be a gut reaction! In a recent study [read more], researchers found that individuals who drank red wine had healthier guts (higher gut microbiota diversity) compared to those who drank white wine, beer, or spirits. The research team accounted for age, weight, the regular diet and socioeconomic status of the participants and continued to see the association. If you drink wine in moderation, make it red!

PL Student/Alumni Highlight

My name is Evan McKinlay, and I am a PL graduate from MRU. I graduated in the spring of 2018 and the following fall started my 2-year Bachelor of Education after degree at the University of Calgary. This is a 2 year program which will give me my teaching certification so I can become a certified teacher in the K-12 school system. To date I have had many field experience practicums in different schools around the city, as well as regular lecture classes completed on campus. This program is a ton of fun, with a wide diversity of different classes to take and many great people to meet along the way.

The HPED program gave me plenty of tools to prepare me for the next step of my journey and I would highly recommend this degree to anyone.  I would also encourage any PL graduates to consider an after degree in Education.
