Preserving and Creating Affordable Housing

Housing Investment Program

In January 2022, the city launched the Housing Investment Program that created a pipeline of 1,500 units of affordable housing, both new development and preservation. This was made possible through an infusion of $45 million in local and federal funds.

Capitol Campus

The city began the process to redevelop Capitol Campus. After years in the making, this project is moving towards preserving 110 units of affordable housing and adding as many as 390 additional new units.

BUILDING

Construction Trends and Reports in 2022

The City of Boise saw a significant shift in the market in 2022 and is reflected in the building permits issued. The total valuation of permits issued in calendar year 2022 saw an increase of 4% from the previous year, a record valuation of $1.5 billion.

We also saw a large increase in residential building permits for solar, over 703 permits, a 34% increase from the previous year. The building department continues to measure growth and evaluate staffing needs as necessary to continue providing great service to our residents.

Code Updates

This year we are updating both the Green Construction Code and Fire Prevention Code to ensure a safe and healthy city for everyone.

Zoning Code Rewrite Begins Application Process

The City of Boise has worked with the community over the last three years to create a new code that ensures we create a city for everyone. Staff is continuing to make final edits to the Zoning Code Rewrite and will begin the official application process in February.
