No Fooling...

April is the start of the cycling season in Central Illinois.  Activities are ramping up and ride groups are taking to the road.  The Prairie Cycle Club is hosting its annual kickoff party and Champaign County Bikes with a coalition of community organizations are busy planning a month full of activities for National Bike Month in May.  It is also the start of construction season and there are a number of road projects that may affect your favorite cycling routes.  This issue is chock-full of events to kickstart your cycling season in the greater Champaign County area.

The fourth annual Bike Travel Weekend will take place during the weekend of May 31 – June 2, 2019, to encourage people throughout the world to go on a one- or two-night bicycle trip with friends or family — or solo — to a campground, hotel, cabin B&B, hostel, or friend’s house—all on the same weekend. In the past three years, Bike Travel Weekend included over 2,700 trips with more than 27,000 participants in all 50 U. S. states and two dozen countries.

There are a wide range of possibilities for short overnight or weekend trips right here in East Central Illinois. Kickapoo, Walnut Point and Weldon Springs State Parks and the Middle Fork Forest Preserve offer camping opportunities while local B&Bs and the Allerton Park and Retreat Center offer indoor accommodations.

Stay tuned for a group camping opportunity heading to Kickapoo....
