Dear <<First Name>>

It will not come to any surprise to you to learn that Brexit and the Pandemic have already caused or are going to continue to cause a jump in prices across the board.  Just about any/everything you or I will buy is imported and these items will end up costing us more. Much as I would love to be able to skip the annual price increase here at Centre Stage, I'm afraid that's just not going to be possible this year.

As some of you know, before the Pandemic struck I ran a successful seminar called, "The Business of Grooming."  (This is, of course, now a Webinar which can be viewed here.)

Many groomers, especially the newbies, but certainly not limited to them, will set their price list by ringing the local "competition" to find out what they're charging.  They will then set their prices slightly lower in the hopes of attracting new customers by luring them away from their existing groomer.  What they haven't done, sadly, is their homework, so they have no idea what it really costs them to run a dog grooming business properly.

By undercutting the lowest charging groomers in the area, these groomers soon find themselves snowed under with clients who buy purely on price.  But in order to pay all the bills they didn't realise were going to be flooding in through their door, they have to take in more and more dogs to earn enough money to keep their heads above water.  Working ever-increasing hours with more and more dogs on their books they appear to be extremely successful, but there is only so much stress that one person can cope with.

Inevitably this leads to a stressed out, burned out groomer (who will eventually realise that they were actually better off stacking shelves at Tesco) and stressed out, poorly groomed dogs who have just about had the bare minimum done as the groomer simply doesn't the have time to spend on luxuries like Nail Grinding, Lavender Wraps or teeth cleaning.  Moreover, these groomers simply don't have the spare money to spend on ongoing CPD or VITAL ongoing training including Pet First Aid.
Just some of the costs of running a dog grooming business include:
You might be surprised to learn and may not be aware that our glorious industry is not regulated.  Anybody can set up as a Dog Groomer, with little or no training.  There are some brilliant unqualified groomers out there, to be sure and there are some who have done an online Groupon-Style course for £20 or less who can call themselves qualified because they paid for the course and now have a certificate. Fortunately, finding a genuinely qualified groomer is now only one click away thanks to The Groomers Spotlight.  Recognised qualifications include ICMG, OCN, iPet and C&G.  One of these courses is likely to set you back about £4,000.

Groupon Courses may be cheaper but are likely to be somewhat lacking in depth and content 😉:
There are a great many new puppies being produced right now, fetching quite frankly outrageous prices which has led, of course, to unscrupulous breeders jumping on the bandwagon.  There will undoubtedly be requests for recommendations for groomers on our local FaceBook Groups and this, in turn, will lead to people looking to take up grooming as a career.  I'm always happy to talk to anyone about this and point them in the right direction, so please do recommend me if you hear of anyone asking.  And if you see people asking for recommendations for a groomer, please also chip in your bit about relevant qualification to do the job SAFELY.

Jackie Grimmett's fabulous strapline has never been more applicable than it's going to be over the next year or so: "a cheap groom is never good and a good groom is never cheap".

Those that joined the Centre Stage VIP scheme in 2020 will have their prices frozen until December 1st next year, all other prices will go up on the 1st December this year as normal.  If you would like a VIP quote for your dog, please let me know before the end of the month as the first payment has to be made on Tuesday, December 1st 2020.
I've rambled on forever, but this was simply too good not to share with you:

😂Just in case anyone is stressing about Christmas Day..............! 😂

Here's my top tip

🎄Christmas Dinner....

I have concluded that the inevitable stress of Christmas dinner is created by adverts, supermarkets and TV chefs...

It's a Sunday dinner for goodness sake!!! 🙄We do it quite happily 51 weeks of the year but can we the consumers be trusted to manage by ourselves on one day of the year...apparently not! Here goes...💓

1. Turkey... It's a big fecking chicken that's all, 20 minutes per lb plus 20 minutes at 180 degrees - jobs a good un! Get yourselves a meat thermometer £3 off the Internet poke it in the offending bird if it says 75 degrees or over its cooked!👏🏼

2. Stuffing - regardless of what Jamie Oliver says you do NOT need 2lbs of shoulder of pork, onions breadcrumbs, pine nuts and a shit load of fresh herbs to make stuffing....(no fecking wonder he's bankrupt if that's what he spends to make stuffing!)😜

What you need is Paxo and a kettle!! If you wanna liven it up, squeeze 3 sausages out of their skins and mix that in with your Paxo before cooking 😉.

3. Gravy - Jamie Oliver is copping for this one as well... Bisto Jamie... All you need is Bisto! I ( nor any other woman I know) has got time on Christmas Eve to piss about roasting chicken wings and vegetables, adding stock and flour, cooking it for another half hour, mashing it all up with a potato masher and then straining the whole sorry mess to make gravy 😠😠😠

4. Vegetables...🍆 Never mind faffing around shredding sprouts and frying them with bacon and chestnuts to make them more palatable... If you don't like them don't buy and cook the fecking things!! If your family only eats frozen peas then that's good enough!

5. Roast potatoes... Yes, I parboil mine then roast them in goose fat but Aunt Bessie also does the same 😉.

6. Trimmings /Christmas pudding and the like.... Aldi or Lidl! (oh and while we're on the subject of pudding - if birds custard is what your family likes on the wretched thing then that's fine - you do not need brandy butter /rum sauce etc or anything else that costs a fecking fortune and takes 2 hours to make!)

7. Family...

Children... Feed the little blighters first separately, if they only want turkey with tomato sauce - fine leave em to it, it doesn't matter. Once they are fed bugger them off to play with their Christmas presents so that YOU can enjoy your dinner in Peace!

Adults... Anyone that can manage to get their sorry arse to your dinner table is also capable of helping to serve up/ sort the kids out/ clear the table /wash up /dry up etc.

And Finally.....

Rant over 😂

🎄Merry Christmas!🎄
