Highlights of World Glaucoma Week

With over 750 activities this year's #glaucomaweek was another great example of how the glaucoma community creates awareness for the silent thief of sight. Want to have a look at all activities that were organized during World Glaucoma Week 2018 and get inspired for next year? WGC-2019 Program Planning Committee in New York

On the 4th of March 2018 the WGC-2019 Program Planning Committee (PPC) met in New York. During this interactive, full day meeting, the program for the World Glaucoma Congress 2019 which will take place in Melbourne has almost entirely been finalized. The PPC members that were not able to join the meeting in real life, dialed in via teleconference. Currently, the PPC is working hard to finalize all details to make the program available in the coming months.

Registration, hotel reservations and abstract submission starts June 1!

WGC-2017 videos: Education Committee Selections

The Education Committee carefully selects presentations from the World Glaucoma Congress 2017 in Helsinki for your benefit. This month Ronnie George introduces the following sessions: Fixing problems after trabeculectomy and non-penetrating surgery, Fixing problems with tubes and Glaucoma progression.

This dealt with the common post-operative complications encountered by glaucoma surgeons.

Fixing problems with tubes

Albert Khouri described how to avoid and manage low IOP post tube surgery. He mentioned that this can occur with all devices but is commoner with non valved devices. He divided their management into early and late presentation and gave insights on how to minimise therisk of hypotony.

Glaucoma progression

Pradeep Ramulu described the utility of trend and event based analyses on perimetry. He stressed that even changes of 5dB can impact activities of daily living. He highlighted that progression is often episodic and not linear and discussed advantages and disadvantages of both strategies while keeping in mind test related factors.

The APGC is held biennially in the Asia-Pacific region and brings together clinicians, scientists, students and other health practitioners from the Ophthalmology field with a focus on Glaucoma.
