Michigan Legislative Biography Database

The Library of Michigan is pleased to make available the Michigan Legislative Biography Database. Janice M. Murphy advises us that through the efforts of staff and numerous volunteers, they have developed a searchable repository of information, allowing researchers to compile lists such as “How many legislators were born in England?”; “Who were the first African American legislators?” or to discover facts such as when the first woman served in the legislature. The Legislative Biography Database covers members of the Michigan state legislature from the first session following statehood in 1835 through the current session.

University of Detroit Mercy Law Library News

By Patrick Meyer

Library Director & Associate Professor of Law

In one month, the face of the law library will be ever-changed. We will lose several long-time and valuable librarians who many of you will recognize. Gene Moy, our government documents & reference librarian, has worked at this law library for 48 years! Katy Cooper, our serials and reference librarian, has worked here for 40 years and is a Univ. of Detroit Law School graduate. You've probably seen both Gene and Katy if you frequent the library. They've probably even told you exactly where the book you're looking for is on the next floor without missing a beat........

The past few months have brought many changes to MSU Schaefer Law Library. Notably, Barbara Bean retired at the end of August of this year. Barbara had been a valued member of the library and an adjunct faculty member for 14 years prior to her retirement. With Barbara Bean’s retirement, MSU Schaefer Law Library has had the opportunity to evaluate workflows and reorganize job duties.

As  write this, the news is still fresh that the Law College will begin the process of a final integration with Michigan State University.
