NZALT 2021 Conference: Saturday 10 - Monday 12 July, Te Whanganui-a-Tara 

Welcome to the launch of our registration process for the NZALT 2021 Conference to be held over the first weekend of the July holidays, 2021 in Wellington.
We will open the conference on Saturday 10 July with a pōwhiri at 6.30 pm at Signs of a Nation, Te Papa. This will be followed by the official opening with a guest speaker and refreshments in Te Marae.
Registration packs will be available from 6pm in the entrance foyer. Conference participants will be able to visit Te Papa prior to the pōwhiri.

Remember to renew your NZALT membership before registering, so that you can take advantage of the cheaper membership registration prices.


There will be a number of $500 awards available to language teachers throughout New Zealand to assist them with travel and accommodation costs for the NZALT 2021 Conference. An application form can be found here.

Accommodation Offers

A variety of accommodation offers are available ranging from budget to deluxe, all within a 10-minute walk of Wellington Girls' College.

Submissions for Presentations

All information about the different types of presentations, as well as how to make a submission and what to do if you made one last year, can be found here.

Keynote Speakers

We are able to confirm that our Key Speakers are as follows:

Dr Corinne Seals will be known to many language teachers throughout New Zealand for her presentations at previous conferences and at NZALT LangSems. Her work around Translanguaging is of particular importance to us all as language teachers in Aotearoa. She is the keynote speaker on Sunday 11 July.

Dr. Gianfranco Conti is known to many language teachers either through his website or the Facebook page Global Innovative Language Teachers.
Dr. Conti will be the Keynote Speaker on Monday 12 July with some workshops to follow. He will be presenting via video-link.

This will be a live conference, but we are making plans to live stream some or all workshops and presentations if necessary.

Language Immersion Day

The Language Immersion Day will take place on Saturday 10 July prior to the opening ceremony on Saturday evening. This is being organised by Future Learning Solutions. There will be workshops for all languages, except for German, at Wellington Girls' College. The German workshop will be held at the Goethe Institut in Cuba Street. Please contact Future Learning Solutions if you have any questions about this day.

Submissions for the draft Te Reo Māori Level 1 Achievement Standards
As part of the NCEA Review of Achievement Standards, new Level 1 products for wāhanga ako aligned to Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA) have been developed and are currently out for public consultation. The consultation closes on 20 February.
The Level 1 products include the Learning Matrix, the Assessment Matrix, and the Rationale which contains some explanatory material. The actual standards and sample assessment tasks won’t be developed until Phase 2. All currently available draft documentation and the accompanying questionnaire is accessible through this link.
Once on the page, scroll right to the bottom and then click on the hyperlinked text "Give us your viewsto see the products and provide feedback. By clicking on the "Related information" link under each embedded version of the product as you work through the questionnaire, you can download and print each of the three products if desired.

It is important that language teachers read these draft standards and provide feedback by Saturday 20 February.
