This session will focus on the R.W. Kern Center, at Hampshire College in Hampshire MA as a case study. The R.W. Kern Center received Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification, with a very robust means of addressing the LBC’s water petal needs, without connection to the municipal sewer.

Building Codes are famous for being long, confusing, and complicated, so let’s “crack” them through trivia night! All questions will be based on the Boston climate zone requirements as set in IECC 2015 code, which is used as a basis for many codes in place today. Come join us and learn more about the IECC 2015 (International Energy Conservation Code) in a fun-filled virtual trivia night!

Deep Dive into Net Zero Water in the City

This session will focus on urban water reuse, which has recently become practical in Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) sewer service communities, due to a 2019 housekeeping rule revision. Case studies from Battery Park City and other projects in New York City will be highlighted.

Deep Dive into Net Zero Water and the Water/Energy Nexus
Feb 25th, 2020 | 8:00am - 10:00am | $35
This session will explore how energy is involved with water by looking at the energy embodied in water infrastructure, and the energy available from water and how these can be utilized to contribute to an overall energy budget. The implications of embodied and operational carbon in the built environment water cycle will be addressed. Case studies to be included in this third workshop will include thermal extraction of water from reuse water in Manhattan.
