Hope to see you on Thursday at the Fall Dance!
  • The EMJS Fall Dance is this Thursday, October 24th from 5-8pm. This event is a fun-filled night of fall- and Halloween-themed activities for the whole family to enjoy. Costumes are encouraged (but not mandatory!) and there will be food, music and games for the kids.
  • Admission is by donation. Pizza, pumpkin pie and veggies can be purchased for $3 each (cash only please!).
  • More volunteers are needed to help make this fantastic event happen! If you can spare 30-45 minutes during the event to help serve food, sell 50/50 tickets or help out at the haunted house or if you would like to provide something for the bake sale, please sign up here: or contact the PAC exec at
  • If you signed up to provide goodies for the bake sale (thank you!), it would be great (but not mandatory if you don't have time!) if your baked goods could be both delicious and nutritious! There are some guidelines and recipe ideas for healthy treats here:
Our first hot lunch is this Wednesday
  • Thanks to everyone who signed up for the first hot lunch! If you missed the order deadline, not to worry - you can still order for the remaining hot lunches. The deadline to place an order for the next hot lunch is Wednesday, Nov 6th (
  • We prefer that you sign up for the whole year at once, but know that you can make changes to any order up to 1 week prior to the next lunch date. No refunds, but you can get a credit for future PAC purchases.
  • We need a volunteer from every division to help distribute food to every classroom. Please email to find out more about how you can help or come to the hot lunch area outside the gym on Wednesday at 11:15am.
Update from the last PAC meeting
  • We had fantastic amazing turnout at the PAC meeting last week! Thanks to those parents who were able to make it. For those who are interested, you can review the meeting minutes and handouts here:
  • Our next meeting is Thursday, November 28th at 7pm in the library. Childcare is available for children aged 3+. Hope to see you there!
Walk and Wheel to School Week was a huge success!
  • Thanks to all the EMJS students and their families who participated in Walk and Wheel to School Week! We had close to 200 walkers and wheelers each day and some lucky winners took home some fantastic prizes.
  • A big thank you to the parent volunteers who helped hand out the draw tickets each day and also to the Capital Regional District for sponsoring WWTS and providing us funds to purchase the draw prizes.
  • Despite the wet weather, we hope that EMJS families will continue to walk and wheel to school during the fall and winter months, and we look forward to Bike to School Week in May!
We need two more class reps!
News from the Visual Arts Committee (VAC)
  • The VAC wants you to mark your calendars for the annual Make Sale, which will be on Friday, December 6th. It is not too early to begin thinking of a craft or art project that you could do with your children to be sold at the sale.
  • Donation boxes for homemade crafts will be placed in each classroom in mid-November.
  • If you have any questions about the VAC or would like to get involved, please email
What are some easy ways to help raise funds for the PAC?
NEW: You can let us know if you need an EMJS Thrifty Foods Smile Card or a Fairway Market Community Card on our site where you order lunches, and we will order one for you and arrange to send it home with your child in a few weeks.
  • Your EMJS Thrifty Foods Smile Card can be loaded every time you shop and Thrifty Foods generously donates 5% of what you load on the card back to our school!  We are fundraising for a gym projector that is high on the school's wishlist ($6000).  Every little bit helps!
  • Load up your EMJS Fairway Market Community Card and use it at Fairway Markets the same way as the Smile Card.
  • When buying bread at Cobs Bread on Oak Bay Avenue, tell them you have a “Dough Raiser” account under the name “Margaret Jenkins”.
  • When buying shoes at Finn & Izzy on Oak Bay Avenue, tell them you would like to support Margaret Jenkins school.
  • Before your bottle returns are processed at any Return-It Bottle Depot location, let the attendant know you would like the payout to go to “École Margaret Jenkins PAC”
