“The release of the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association’s annual report affirms what we have been saying for months: 2020 was a record-shattering year for venture capital in Alberta, most notably in Edmonton and Calgary.

“We have seen huge momentum building in the tech and innovation space here in our province. While Canada’s venture capital investment was down 29 per cent last year, Alberta’s doubled with $455,000,000 in deals. Announcements of Symend, Neo Financial and Jobber raising record amounts of money help drive innovation, grow our tech sector and, most importantly, get Albertans back to work."

“For the fifth year in a row, the University of Calgary has been recognized as one of Canada’s best diversity employers.

While recognizing this national acknowledgement of the work being done to make this a more equitable, diverse and inclusive university, campus leaders agree this is only the beginning of actions needed to promote change within our university and the broader society.

“This recognition is not the result of a single policy or procedure, but a campus-wide acknowledgement that the University of Calgary can only reach its full potential when everyone on campus feels valued and supported for the contributions they are making,” says Dr. Dru Marshall, UCalgary’s provost and vice-president (academic)

Meatless Farm founder Morten Toft Bech calls Canada “the pea capital of the world.” But Calgary will have competition: archrival Roquette Canada will open the world’s largest pea-protein facility in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, this summer. According to Roquette Canada’s CEO, Manitoba “can be the Silicon Valley of plant-based proteins".
