A CHAT WITH...
TOM LYNCH, LEAD SINGER OF VODI

Houston based VODI is a 6 piece indie rock band featuring ambient keys, driving rhythms, effortless hooks and a nostalgic sound. "Pressure" and "Gold," from their 2017 album Talk, were on constant repeat around our house after we first heard their music, but the entire album is easy on the ears.

FAVORITE PLACE THAT YOU'VE PLAYED A SHOW IN HOUSTON:
That's tough. Usually the crowd has a lot to do with that. We've played a bunch of fun shows just because of the people that were there. Rudyards and Walters will always hold special spots in our hearts, though.

FAVORITE PLACE TO GRAB CHEAP BEERS AFTER A SHOW:
We are experts at forgetting things at Lil' Danny Speedo's Go Fly a Kite Lounge.

WHO IS ANOTHER HOUSTON MUSICIAN THAT YOU THINK MORE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
I'm going to have to name two. Our drummer, Tank Lisenbe, is one of the sweetest, most talented people I know. He's got a great album under the name Tan Kin. The other has to be Kelly Doyle. He's got cool party tricks.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT HOUSTON?
Probably what most people love - the food and the people. And the construction...

GOOD EATS (AND DRINKS)
Night Heron, the new bar and restaurant from Agricole Hospitality, is now open in Montrose! Like all of their spaces, this one is casual and welcoming while still serving up impressive drinks and food. Add their burger to your list to try and ask about their "fire sale" wine list if you're not in the mood for a cocktail.

Lei Low Rum & Tiki Bar was one of the first bars we became fans of in Houston. Caroline was introduced the week we moved back and it's at the top of her list to return to after the baby comes. Though it's been open since 2014, we think this gem flies under the radar and isn't mentioned nearly enough. We've visited a handful of famous Tiki bars around the country and this intimate hole-in-the-wall truly holds up. Their Mai Tai Tuesdays are a perfect time for a first visit when they offer three versions of the classic Mai Tai for $6 all night!

In case you missed it, after nearly five years of uncertainty and the possibility of being demolished, there's officially some news about the Astrodome to share! At the end of January the Texas Historical Commission approved the application for the Dome to become a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Days later, the Harris County Commissioners Court voted to approve a $105M renovation. The plan for renovation would raise the ground level two floors to fit 1,400 parking spaces and transform the dome into an event and convention space. It is anticipated that a third of the $105M will come from property taxes, another third from hotel taxes, with the final portion from parking revenue.
