"Bright lights, Houston is hot tonight." - Iggy Pop
ASTROS LEGEND LANCE BERKMAN

When Lance Berkman was drafted by the Astros in 97', he quickly became and remained one of my all-time favorite players. Not only did he make plays like this, but he seemed like a good guy, funny, and didn’t take baseball too seriously. What better way to celebrate Opening Day than with an interview from an Astro great?

WE HEAR YOU'RE A BIT OF A JACK HANNA WHEN IT COMES TO PETS. WHAT IS THE STRANGEST PET YOU'VE HAD?
A possum. Its mother was involved in a traffic accident. Possums aren't great drivers. She was tragically killed and Ma survived.

MOST MEMORABLE MLB MOMENT WHILE IN HOUSTON?
Game 5 of the NLCS in 2005. I hit a three-run homer to put us on the precipice of the World Series. And then, Albert Pujols hit a three-run HR in the top of the 9th for the Cardinals. That was the most elated and disappointed I've ever been on the field in my life.

WHAT IS SOMETHING EVERYONE LIVING IN HOUSTON MUST DO AT LEAST ONCE?
Leave town during the summer!

FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
Taste of Texas - best steak in town.

FORGET BIG PUMA OR FAT ELVIS, WHAT WOULD YOUR NICKNAME BE TODAY?
Probably Old Gray Beard for obvious reasons.

WHAT DO YOU BENCH?
Not as much as most people might expect. I actually have no idea.

We stumbled upon Astral Brewing a few days before their opening. We reached out to Alex, the owner/brewer, and he was gracious enough to invite us over while they put the finishing touches on their space and sample some beer.
Alex has a Physics degree from Princeton and PhD in Biochemistry from Cal, so it’s safe to say that he's smarter than you and a bit of a mastermind when it comes to the brewing process. Oh, and yes, the beer is GOOD. We're pumped to welcome a spot like this to Garden Oaks!

This is not our first shout out to The H podcast, hosted by Luke Brawner. He was kind enough to have us on for a brief interview regarding this very newsletter! You can listen to it here.

We're also loving his new podcast, Thirty Pop. It looks back at the week by week headlines from 30 years ago, covering music, movies, sports, fashion and politics. If you're a child of the 80's, it's sure to bring up some good memories.
