Community Covered Dish Picnic
Monday, October 7 ~ Noon at Valdese Lakeside Park

Bring a food item to share (casserole, dessert, side, etc.) and join us for lunch.
The picnic area is only 0.2 mile into the park and we can help you carry items if needed. FVR will provide paper products, utensils, drinks and serving tables. There is picnic table seating for 32 - you may want to bring a folding chair for better socializing. After lunch, we will go for a group walk for those who are interested.

Fun at the Falls - Free Family Fun

With free crafts, free educational programs and a free hot dog lunch, approximately 200 attendees enjoyed their day at McGalliard Falls Park.

Kids made pine cone bird feeders, created art out of recycled plastic bottle tops and painted rocks to hide around the county. For education, there was a finding critters in the creek program, a fossil hunt and a fly tying demo.

Friends of the Valdese Rec, Bimbo Bakeries, Catawba River Wildlife Coalition and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation – Great Outdoors University worked together to provide the free day. After the activities, Burke Sunrise Rotary held their Duck Derby Fundraiser.

Even with the grants that have been awarded, we still need money for the bridge across McGalliard Creek to complete the 2-mile greenway trail.

Go 1 mile to the end of the road
Park in grassy field to left (before Waste Water Treatment Plant gate)

Look for the new large sign in the parking area.
