New Rec Dept Administrative Assistant Stephanie Haylock
After 25 years with the Rec Department, Renee Gravel will retire at the end of the year. Her replacement is Stephanie Haylock. Stephanie has a Bachelor's Degree from Gardner Webb and worked at CHS-BR as a patient care coordinator. You may have seen her behind the counter of Old World Baking Company - where she will continue to work. Stephanie is from Valdese and an interesting fact to note is she was part of the first graduating class from Draughn High School - where she was the yearbook editor. Stephanie says her primary job will be trying to fill Renee's shoes - which will be very difficult! You can tell from her experience and holding 2 jobs that Stephanie is organized and detail-oriented. She plans to "keep the trains running on time." When you call the main number at the Rec Dept - it will probably be Stephanie who answers the phone. If you see her, welcome her to the Rec!!
At the December 3 Valdese Town Council Meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Doug Knight presented details on the DEQ Water Resources grant the town could apply for to construct a greenway along Lake Rhodhiss and McGalliard Creek. The Council voted unanimously in favor of the town applying for the grant. Thank you Council Members!
The Town of Valdese asked Friends of the Valdese Rec to serve beer at two “Concerts at the Rock”events (November 3 and November 30). To support efforts to raise money for Valdese Lakeside Park, Wicked Weed Brewingstepped in to help. Thanks to the partnership, FVR made $464 from beers sales and tips – which will be doubled in our current Dollar for Dollar Match. In addition, FVR members sold concessions at the concerts (soda, water, snacks) and made an additional $185.01 for the FVR general fund.
Our Trail Thursdays have come to an end (for now).
Thanks to Ray Burris for being there each week to lead the 10K run. Thanks to other FVR Members who led walks or runs - Mark Rostan, Sandy Terrell, Spence Borden, Quez Little and Beth Heile. It has been suggested we have some weekend walks/runs and we will plan those in the new year.
