PARTNERSHIP INSIDER
SVP Partner Larry Fox reflects on the need to philanthropy to address inequities, highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We, as leaders in philanthropy, now face an opportunity to name these disparities, and leverage our power and resources to mitigate them. We must collectively work toward a future in which the color of your skin, or zip code in which you are born, does not predict your life path."

Encore Fellows: Capacity Building During COVID-19

As part of SVP Portland, the Encore Fellows Program provides a source of high-value experience for nonprofit organizations, helps individuals transition into social-purpose work, and gives corporations a unique way to positively impact their communities. This is more important than ever as Liz Fouther-Branch, a former Fellow and current SVP Partner, explains: “The current pandemic has further highlighted the need for this type of collaboration between social entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and community leaders."

At the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), for example, our Encore Fellow was already well-positioned to support them with COVID-19 challenges. His IT skills are hugely valuable in helping the organization as staff transition to working remotely, while continuing to serve their community.

Currently, we have 19 Fellows matched at 19 individual nonprofits, and are actively working to match more this year. To learn more about the Encore Fellows Program, contact Linda K. Williams at lindak@svpportland.org
